Olympian wave 6 or 8?

Would like some input from others that have installed these heaters

I have the outback TRS 23 foot right now but I will most likely be upgrading to a 33-35 foot fifth wheel in the next two or three years

Planning to install this hooked to a hose piped ino the propane lines so I can move it around a little bit in the camper
Not seeing a great place to install it on the wall etc.

The wave 8 is a slightly bigger unit but it does not seem like it's that much bigger

Any reason not to go ahead and buy the wave 8 now knowing i will use in the 5th wheel eventually, even though a six might be fine for this smaller trailer

Thoughts and suggestions on this modification would be great
thanks

I think Walmart is running this thing (8) right now online for about $300, no shipping. Can't beat that.
Be sure to crack a couple windows when using that thing. I'm too old to buy the "100% safe" story burning propane inside a trailer.

wanted to update this, have used the heater 7-8 nights now

i ended up getting the wave8 and now wish it was a 6 or even maybe a 3

being in southern az super cold is not going to be a big problem very often, but my plan was to move this to my next bigger 5th wheel in a couple of years

we set it up with a hose so i can move it where i want in the trailer which is nice , but the 8 is just a little too big
doable but smaller would have been better

low to medium really heats the trailer well with a window open halfway

in fact in 45 weather right now low is too much with an upper vent cracked and a window at maybe 1/4

tonite have the maxair fan vent all the way up and kitchen window open 1/4 and am hoping it wont get too hot

other than i think it was just too big of a unit heat wise/size wise for this camper it seems very efficient and works well

one note - the first 4 days i used this i was further northand it was probably 40-42 degrees, the underneath of the toy hauler area was not insulated, i had it on medium one night and low the others and it was fine

last week since we were doing other work i added 3 inch styrofoam type insulation under there while the coroplast was off
the last 4 days temp was supposed to be 46-47 at night and low was too much, not sure if the insulation up there is making part of the difference or not

either way they heat well

Notanlines, with you 100%, two big issues with these heaters, Carbon Monoxide and fire!!! My dad was a Firefighter and saw way too many fires and loss of life from the use of these portable heaters.
Yes, your furnace is only about 80% efficient, it is 100 times safer than a portable gas heater in an RV. That and all the condensation they create.

I was also kinda wondering why not just use the furnace in the rv....maybe not as efficient but then your not dealing with really cold temps either.

This is wave 6 it uses very little fuel and no power it's quit. The nice thing with a wave it's wall mount approved . For boondockin it's the safest cat heater on the market . It's good for above freezing . It should be mounted closer to the floor. I have heat shield on top that really isn't nessary.

That is a nice unit. Cat heaters are nice when you are away from shore power. And they don't have the blower noise.

I helped a friend install a Wave3 in his rig last weekend. He wishes he had the Wave6...

I'm glad that was clarified because I was wondering how you could wave a 6 or 8, I thought they were talking about a wave you did to another RVer like jeep people do...lol!

.

I had a look and Walmart.com had a wave 6 for $242. Amazon.com had it for $229 and Amazon.ca had it for $629 CAD.

Little difference in price North of 49'

Been way colder than it should be in soutern az right now and the wave is doing good- as cold as it is i am starting to be glad i bought the 8!

I have the regular keystone carbon monoxide alarm and a second one with a readout on it
Have only seen the screen go to 30 on the readout if i put the heater on high and dont open the windows right away
As soon as you open the window a little the readout goes back to zero

The keystone alarm has never gone off

Although the furnace is not as efficient i would use it for convenience/space saving if i could swing the battery power draw , but i just cannot handle the battery load

The wave seems to be very efficient, i am not using much propane at all

.

I looked at the online details and could not find any information on temperature control.

Do they just have burner settings, i.e.. low, medium or high or does it have a thermostat that turns on the burner once it drops below a certain temperature ?

Thanks cvin, I have a Buddy heater that I have used and it puts out a lot of heat.

It would be nice to have a thermo.

It would, most of time in southern az low is pushing it and almost a little too warm

Up by roosevelt lake right now and it is cold as crap, ran the wave on high all night

This “artic barrier” does not seem to be doing much lol

Have silver insulation in the bed slide but am going to add another of that layer tonite

I am not in really cold temps much but need to do some more insulating in here

I found that using 1" pink foam insulation boards, cut to fit the slide sidewalls and roof/floor worked fairly well. Just open the slide, go outside, cut to fit and wedge them into the space between the flange and the trailer sidewall. Then, when you're ready to leave, just pull them, put them in the storage compartment and use again at the next "longer than a day or two" stop.

I have been thinking there is enough air leaks in my toy hauler it wouldn't need fresh air to run wave 6. I close the garage off when it cools down.

I am thinking the same thing on my toy hauler

Had some extra silver insulation stuff with me and cut 2nd pieces for the bed slide windows last nite , even with no wind at all outside it was amazing how much air was coming in around the windows

The 2nd layer on each window- running it up as far as possible and a few inches below the window made a big difference

Think I am going to get some more and triple layer those and do the window in the toy area

The Atwood carbon monoxide 900 0140 alarm is on line 48 dollars for CW . I got one today there over priced 101$ on the shelf I had to show CW the internet price. Just a piece of mind .
