26RBI very bouncy even with x-chocks

Hi Folks,

My 2015, 26RBI is very bouncy. I have the stabilizers deployed and X-Chocks but every movement inside the camper causes to camper to noticibly move. I'm not sure if it's a combination of a lightweight floor and crappy stabilizers or what but it is quite annoying. I've camped in this a dozen times but this is only the econd camping trip with my wife and after 5 days I can say that it is way worse than my previous camper.

I'm willing to go to the expense of sissor jacks and/or stabilizer bars but I dont want to do that unless there is a reasonable chance it will make a difference.

What I novice with the electric stabilizer jacks is that they are very close to the centerline of the trailer especially the the opposing slides deployed so I'm not sure that stabilizing them with the arms will be all that effective.

Anyone else with an X-Lite trailer having the same issue?

If you respond recommending a product please state your particular jack type, thanks.

The best way to remove most of the the bounce is to get the frame up off the suspension. The electric stabilizer jacks aren't strong enough or designed to "lift" the trailer, so here's a step by step that may work for you.

1) set your side to side level using whatever you use under the tires. Set your X chocks.

2) unhitch and lower the nose about 1" below level. Set the rear jacks firmly on the ground.

3) using tongue jack, lift the nose about 1" high. set the front jacks firmly on the ground and then lower tongue jack to set on the jacks and tongue jack.

Depending on how much spring travel you have, you may be able to get away with 1 1/2 -2 inches of lift.

www.steadyfast.com helped my trailer be noticably more stable.

Tried the tip in the second post but that doesn't seem to help. Heard the camper creaking as I lifted it onto the rear stabilizers so I know it was lifting up off the springs a bit. Chuckster, Not sure if I'd want the entire weight on these chintzy stabs.

Here's what I have.

Wife and I have been pretty happy with our Steadyfast install. Soo glad we spent the money. Well worth it.

Have the same trailer Bill and the stabilizers are worthless as you noted. We are seasonal and use 4 adjustable tripods with concrete blocks, not as easy to set up if traveling, but it eliminated the movement.

Bill, based on your experience then, if I were to go with 4 scissor jacks and say the steadyfast, the frame is otherwise rigid enough to be stabile

Nothing beats a set of stabilizer bars, many different ones on the market, they all do the same thing, and they work.

You don't put the entire weight of the trailer on the jacks. Just coming up a bit off the suspension will make it more stable.

Good thoughts all!! For us, kind of old, sway when you walk, gotta grab onto anything when you are trying to do anything.....X chocks, stabilizers, and the ''BAL wheel chocks" get us feeling about normal as we try to travel about in the RV Don't know that we would know what to do if we didn't have some "wobble" in everything we do. Now, if the docs could come up with some ways to fix our legs, knees, backs etc. maybe we would think of something else.....

I don't know why a set of DIY stabilizers wouldn't help the rocking; it sure helped our 3220 for under $100

Thanks for the comments. I camp alone more than with my wife so it doesn't bother me but she cant stand the bounce so I decided to order a set of Steadyfast and see if it makes much difference with the installed stabilizers...if not I'll put scissor jacks on it.

Thanks
Bill

UsTwo, how many are you using? They recommend 2 front and two back. Are you using only two? Four of them brings one into the same price range as other stabs on the market.

They were the first ones I contemplated but opted for the Steadyfast...who knows I may need to add a pair to get the results my wife wants

I installed a set (2) of BAL Lock Bars, only about $75, made a huge difference. I then bought a second set but have not installed them yet because the first two made such a difference, not sure if I need the second set or not.

Those posted above, I really dont see how they can make much of a difference and you have to install and uninstall every time you set up. The stabilizer bars are always installed, you just lock and unlock them, much easier and simpler.

By the way, I just ordered a pair of Andersen Levelers from Jet.com.

With their new user discount I paid $35.68 each delivered...cheapest I've found them.

I've got the JT Stabilizer bars on my 272 BHS and they make a huge difference compared to just the standard scissor jacks. It's not like on a slab but I think as close as your gonna get.

Another thought... Even with the Lippert 6 point auto level, I always have a more stable base when I put down an 18" square sheet of 3/4" marine grade plywood under each foot when parking on gravel, or grass. After a few days on site the regular landing gear tends to "burrow in" and settle, with the constant foot traffic, fore and aft / port and starboard. I swear the sliders add to the problem by widening the footprint, thus adding fulcrum/leverage effect. Some people like the "Elephant Foot" pads, but mine are way cheaper, and stow real easy (and flat). Plus they've never disappeared, they stowaway in transport mode, as opposed to just hang there on the bottom of your legs, with a cheap hairpin clip and rod! Shades of "Gone in 60 seconds"!

On concrete, no issue. On Blacktop (Asphalt) the property owner should kiss your feet in warm/hot weather!
