Big Bend Rio Grande Village RV Campground

We are planning a trip in April for Big Bend and want to stay at this only full hookup campground they have in the park. Stayed in Terlingua in January of this year and could not make the east/south side of the park at 800,000 acres, in the time we had.

Would like to find out from anyone that has stayed at this campground, what's your take on it? We hear there is only 20 full hookup sites available. What about weather in early April?

It is basically a parking lot with hookups. We stayed there a couple of years ago. The exit from the park to the road has a deep drainage ditch and we had to turn around and go out the entrance or we would have dragged the rear of our fifth wheel.. Sites are back in, not a lot of room. That said, it is the only game in the area that is convenient.

We have been going to the Big Bend area since 1981 and have never actually camped in the park.

We have always stayed at the La Kiva campground, but it is not really a campground anymore, so for our next trip we are thinking about just biting the bullet and staying at the Study Butte campground, which like all the campgrounds in the area is just a parking lot with hook ups and it is centrally located.

Rio Grande Village is the furthest campground from anything else in the area, there are 20, reservable sites, with full hookups. If you want to do anything else, like Big Bend Ranch State Park, the ghost town or Lajitas... they are a long way off.

If you just want to spend your time in the NP, there is plenty to do there, especially if you have 4 wheel drive and Rio Grande Village is the only place with hookups.

The Big Bend is our favorite area to spend time... "The stars at night, are big and bright ... deep in the heart of Texas".
