Also, bear in mind that the 5500 onans draw cooling air from below. Its possible dirt or debris could be hampering its cooling. Ive ran mine 24 hrs a day in the Texas heat with both a/cs going. Never a problem.

Just a thought, maybe run a mid sized electric fan on or into the gen set compartment. They draw, at max, about an amp so shouldn't really add to the load significantly. I did that with the smaller gen set that I had in the bed of the truck. It was running at near max capacity and with the fan, the air temp stayed much cooler in the bed area.
