RV Rear Bike Rack Modifications

Hey all. Looking for suggestions or best practice you all may have found to properly secure bikes on the flip down (platform-style) OEM bike racks (attached picture).

I'm thinking of buying or fabricating some type of wheel lock and hold down arm. I've heard there are possible bounce issues trying to secure bikes like this.

I would appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, or examples you all might have.

I built one for my son fifver , I used a short 1 1/ 2 square tubing welded with hole drilled and 1 inch tee tubing sliding into the 1/14 with a pin he pulls the tee out when not in use .

I essentially built one from PVC pipes bought at Lowes.

If you look at the pictures, I made one for the Left of the rack and another one for the Right of the rack. Hard to see mine, as it's covered and I can't find another pic. But the blue one was what I got the idea from. Hope you get the idea.

One of my bike has big 4 inch fat tires, so I made the space wider, the other is a standard bicycle tire.

Once done, I painted both LH and RH with Krylon Plastic black paint and attached it to my rack with a bunch of HD tie wraps, I did not want it to be permanent.

Held down with straps, it has worked beautifully and reliably for thousands of miles.

Good luck.

Be safe and after the rack is loaded up, grab the frame and check it for upward movement. If the rack has any movement it be bounce like a JO-JO at highway speed. Secure it some how.
If you have not seen stuff on the rear of a TT, 5er and even MHs bouncing away on every bump, you will some day.
The slide out bumper like I have while extended has several inches of vertical play.
