6v v. 12v

I'm just curious as to why when campers consider adding a battery to their rig, the advice is usually to get two 6v in series, rather than just to add another 12v in parallel.

Is it that the golf-cart batteries use a different technology that delivers power longer?

I would be worried that a battery developing a problem, in series with a good battery, would impede the good battery from getting a good charge, whereas in parallel, the good battery would still get a good charge.

I am by no means an expert but here is my understanding. The golf cart batteries can generally store more amp hours, the recover better after being discharged, and they last longer.

I replaced my single 12v with two 6v batteries. Honestly, I chose that set up because it seemed to be the consensus on what to do.

First off, Logan X, that is a nice battery set-up. The short answer is 2-6volt golf cart style batteries will have a greater amp hour capacity than a single 12V. Now, I have 4-12V golf cart batteries in our golf cart. (they do make them)

Remember, you are looking for deep cycle batteries, in any given size, amp hour ratings will very, and they are priced accordingly with brand names fetching a premium price. Deep cycle batteries are date coded, stamped on the top of the terminal. If you purchase batteries to be grouped together make sure they are the same (everything) and the date codes match.

Deep cell batteries need conditioning to reach full potential, a number of discharges and charges.

All of this information, and much more is on line, Google is your friend.

Never leave a battery in less than full charge, they will sulfate quickly.

It's available from many sources. One is Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Current price is about $70 on Amazon Prime.

I've got one sitting in the pole barn that's not being used. When I reconfigured the battery location on our Cougar, that box wouldn't fit where I installed the batteries, so I went with a different style.

NOCO builds some excellent battery accessories. Their boxes are great if they fit the spot where you need them to fit.

As the others have mentioned, the box is from Noco. I am happy with it but I had to mount a piece of pressure treated lumber in the battery tray and screw the box into that. The box I used was too wide for the battery tray.

Also, using the single box actually worked out well for me. It left enough room to add a small box for my battery monitor shunt.
