New member from Alberta, Canada

Hi everyone,

Introducing myself as a new member to the forum. Just bought a 2008 Keystone Passport 290BH a week ago (upgraded from an '86 Chev Empress motorhome our family of 6 have outgrown).

Camped this past weekend in Dinosaur Provincial Park Campground, which was a great experience (definitely a must to check out for anyone visiting Southern Alberta ...badlands landscape, fossil finding, great trails, natural playground and non-stop climbing for the kids).

Have to say I love how much more storage I have compared to what I did before (no longer need to store camping chairs and other gear in the motorhome, thanks to the ample trailer storage, and full passthrough storage in the front). Not to mention how much more affordable it is to go places, as the Empress was somewhat of a beast gas mileage wise, and thanks to the Passport only weighing about 5,000 lbs dry.

Is getting about 27 litres per 100km (around 8.7 mpg) seem pretty average mileage to get ...at least for relatively flat trips? I'm towing with a 5.7L V8 Toyota Sequoia. I'm sure as soon as I get into some of the mountain passes it'll change quite a bit.

The quad bunk model will be perfect for my family, as we now have extra room for friends/family to stay on occasion.

Anyway, this seems like a great and helpful forum. Look forward to being a part of it.

Jason

Going to make it out there eventually, still kicking around the East. Lots of USA to see, hope to retire in BC.
Currently getting 24L/ 100km ( relatively flat) in my set up, Northern NB last fall 31k/100, quite hilly.
Glad you're enjoying the new digs.
Lots of good info (and spirited reading, at times) should you need any if you're in a pickle. Hope not.
Enjoy

Welcome to the forum from Radium Hot Springs BC. Just over the other side of those big rocks. 27l/100 kms is 10 mpg (Imperial gal).

Thanks all.

Well, even if I hit north of 30L/100km through the mountains, that's still a lot better than the 40+ I was getting with the '86 Empress motorhome (454 big block)

Welcome to the forum from another Calgarian. Enjoy the new RV. We opted to go with a fifth wheel instead of a bus for pretty much the same reasons.
