Water heater bypass

I have a Bullet 210. First time winterizing it as I usually have a local dealer do it. I put the hot water tank in bypass connected the antifreeze to the pump inlet and turned on the pump. I had pink fluid coming out of the taps but also had it coming out of the hot water tank where I had removed the plug. It didn't make any difference which way I set the bypass valve, antifreeze still came out of the hot water tank. Is there another step I'm missing?
