I haven't camped at Johnson Shut Ins, but have been there. It is a fun and magical place, beautiful. Sliding down the rocks is an all time great memory. Elephant Rocks is also a good side trip.

I live a few miles away from Anchor Down and can say its a beautiful campground. That is subjective though because you may have a different preference in camping style. Look up their website if you haven't already. The pics on their site do not do the location justice. It overlooks Douglas Lake and the Smokies are visible to the south. Stunning sunrises and sunsets. Any specific questions just ask.

I have stayed at anchors down one time. It is a beautiful park. very nice sites. With that said I haven't gone back There is no trees for shade and the whole park is terraced. To hard for me to walk around.

I camped at Johnson Shut-ins, when I had a small pop up tent trailer that I pulled behind our motorcycle. I liked it and would like to go back with our TT, I left my camper there and took my two sons up the trail and they hiked back down. Nice rest rooms and showers when we were there.

ID:	18441 We love it there. There is very little shade and they are busy enough to let you reserve 2 years in advance.

Anchor Down is hands down our favorite place to travel to (about 5 hours away). Simply beautiful and so well-kept.

This was during a fall break trip a few years ago.
