Slide out leans out... too much?

We're very new to owning a travel trailer so thanks for being patient with me...

I believe slides are supposed to have a slight tip away from the trailer so water runs off and not in, but our slide out seems a bit extreme. When we place a level on the floor of the slide, the bubble is completely out of the center level target space.

Is this normal??

If the TT is level side to side then that seems too much of a drop.

As Joe mentioned, you need to have the trailer level to actually assess the tilt of the slide. See what the level says on the interior floor of the trailer as a reference to what it says on the floor of the slide. If the floor is level and the bubble on the slide is "off the scale" it seems there is something out of adjustment.

I took pictures of the level on our main floor and under the table on the slide. Seems pretty drastic... Are we doing damage to it by using it?

I'll be so annoyed if this is actually an issue because we've had some problems with the dealer who sold it to us... They already had to fix a major issue with the slide seal on the bottom of the slide (we pointed it out - apparently they missed it in their "inspection") so maybe something else got messed up when they were fixing that?

Measure the gap between the slide facia and the wall at the top and bottom. Post your results.

I called BAL about the cable slide on our new TT. Tech support said a 1 1/2" drop is acceptable which is what we have. Looking at the bubble yours looks beyond the specs. With a 3' straight edge (piece of good lumber) placed on the floor you should be able to measure more accurately.

I measured from the inner part of the dark brown wood to the wall. Just under the width of my finger in the picture, about 1/2". On the bottom it measured about 1 1/8".

It's tough for me to tell a lot from a photo of a bubble level, and I can't quite figure out what your "dark wood" photo is showing. Perhaps a photo of the rig such as this one would give us something to judge by visually.



When I got this 2019 Cougar last October, I was concerned about the slide tilt, given that my previous rig was dead perpendicular. You can see the tilt best by comparing the left edge of the slide window relative to the main body.

Using the Level function of the builtin Measure app on my iPhone (a really handy tool), I determined that the main body was at true 0°, and the outer wall of the slide was just shy of 1° tilt, which I realized was well within tolerances, even though it was clearly visible (at least to me -- I did a lot of paste-up in my youth).

If you have an iPhone, try this; I'm sure there's some analogous app for an Android.

Here's a backed up shot of what I'm measuring - I thought the wood around the slide was the fascia but maybe that's wrong.

On the top part, I'm measuring from the red line directly to the wall and it's about 1/2"

On the bottom near the floor, I'm measuring from the red line (same spot as above) directly to the wall and it's about 1 1/8"

I had no idea my iPhone had that tool... I will try that tomorrow and see what I find. It actually doesn't look that bad in my opinion on the outside - just feels a little too slanted on the inside.

It seems to me that measuring from the fascia would require trim to be perfectly plumb, and that might be asking a lot of Keystone. From the final photo, I would estimate your tilt to be in the range of 1-2°, which is still normal. Now, you may easily perceive even that little tilt with your sense of balance. You can always use the iPhone tool on your table and on your floor to see whether it matches the external tilt; if worse, perhaps some shimming of internal furniture is in order. The table and recliners would be easy; the bench seats, maybe not so easy.

The facia is used as the “stop” when extending the slide. It is attached with screws to the slide frame so the facia piece itself if “plumb”. The side trim may or may not be plumb depending on the trim attached on top the facia board.

You may need to adjust the cables, that procedure is available from Norco accuslide.

Now that we know the mechanics of the slide itself is well within tolerance, you may want to use the phone to check out the interior floor and furniture just to see if perhaps they are tilted all on their own, and if so, address that separately so that your personal sense of balance can be satisfied.

Doesn't look that far out of wack BUT having had slide issues when we purchased our Alpine years ago you certainly want it checked out. If it was purchased from dealer with "N" I see tears in your eyes. Call Keystone and if warranty they can tell you and recommend another dealer.

If not I recommend calling Lippert to have them suggest a dealer since it is likely their mechanism. They where the one that eventually took care of our problem and have done so on an aftermarket Level Up system that was not installed correctly by their suggested dealer which was a camping world in another state.

If it a cable slide the dealer can adjust it up. GRT A SLIDE TOPPER THAT ROLLS UP. Then level the slide. Should be almost level. No more than 3/4”

Annemarie, Hi from a fellow Minnesotan.
I bought my RV second hand, and I have the same Accuslide Cable slideout system.
When I got it, it was way out of adjustment.
One good way to tell if it needs adjustment is to run it all the way out, then look at each of the 4 cables. None should have more than 1" of slack, and personally, I think that's too much. Do the same, running it all the way in, and look on top of the slide, inside your RV. Look for loose cables there too.
It seems to me that the amount of difference top-to-bottom on yours is too much. Even if it isn't, it can be better.
The adjustment can get a little involved, but download the manual for it, and check it out. If you're not comfortable with adjusting it, I'm sure you can find a dealer who's seen plenty of these.

Had the same issue on our Keystone Cougar 31 SQBWE - took it back to dealer 3 times before it was adjusted properly. Was told the "stop" was positioned incorrectly. Hope that helps.

Check your cables on the top of the slide, mine were loose and i took it in and had it adjusted and my level changed significantly, (it looked like yours from the outside)
