Maybe we'll rethink our plans for a late summer Michigan trip, bottom to top then the UP and over to WI, MN and ND. We visited my southern MI hometown a couple years back and maybe that's enough. Heck, all we are getting now weatherwise is an ice storm

Oh come on now, don't be a chicken. By late summer it will most likely quit snowing on us. Heck by then most of our snow may be melted.

Now if we could just get sourdough to keep that gulf moisture down there where it belongs we wouldn't be having this conversation

I'm doing my best to contain this stuff but it's coming by so fast, filled with so much sand I can't see much of it to catch!! Combine that with the fact that my wind sock (to catch the wind) is so perforated that it lets most of it through. I'll keep trying to catch it and keep it in place and apologize for this stuff that gets through.

I went to knock out the first mowing of the year. Pull cord gave up the ghost first pull. Mower maintenance day instead of lawn mowing day. Never ending projects. Should be up and going after a trip to the farm supply store.

Sorry for all you guys that are snowed in. I LOVE snow but would agree. A foot in the yard in mid-April would drive me bananas. Hoping it melts fast for ya!!

Freeheel, "I went to knock out the first mowing of the year. Pull cord gave up the ghost first pull. Mower maintenance day instead of lawn mowing day" Sorry, but I have no idea what you're talking about. Blow? Snow? Mow? Sorry, but I've got to head down the beach and find Momma and her bag of shells.....

wowsers John.. Was 80 yesterday, and in the sun it was not really pleasant. Camping yesterday was fun. Nasty thunderstorms coming in soon, so glad we got back and unloaded early enough.

Dave,

I thought this might help with your planning. By "late summer trip" I suppose you mean after 5PM and before dark ?????

Will I need chains on the TV and 5er? Gotta be ready for anything and since I'm originally from the snow belt of South Michigan plus was a Boy Scout in my youth, recall lot of that white stuff over a winter

Man, that sucks! I went camping this past weekend at Grey's Point Camp near Topping, VA. Was near 80 degrees Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Hated to come home. I feel so badly for you guys up north. Be patient, your time will come.

I've been "arguing" with Mother Nature all day today (and she's winning)... Late yesterday I moved a 5' drift away from the house and cleared the driveway. This morning it was right back where it was. I moved it again this morning and "that old biddy" has already moved it back again. I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning to move it "hopefully one last time"..... The wind is supposed to change direction tonight, so that should help with the drifting. All told, I've moved about 100' of 5' drifts (two times), cleared 2+ feet from the drive and plowed the road (about 800') that was drifted well over 5' deep. And, from the looks of it all, I might as well have just stayed inside and watched the trees bend in the wind.....

80 degrees, eh? Must be nice, but we all know that when it's 80 up here, you'll be over 90 (maybe over 100) with 100% humidity. Every location has its good and bad, but dang it, it's time for a change !!!!!

Most everyone we meet comes from "up north" during the winter. Many, if not most, are from Michigan?? They even have their own little clique in the park. Many from Canada, some from ME and other northern states. None want to go back in winter and we communicate with many that work their return dates around the weather....like now, with some holding in AZ, TN etc. The thing is, despite what looks like terrible weather to me, they ALL can't wait to get back "home". They love their places. All the folks from MI talk about where they're from; and, those from the UP make sure they tell you, those that aren't try to tell you how close they are to it. Don't know the significance of that but they sure do.

I have no concept of MI and the UP or anywhere else there. But, many of our friends live in the UP and insist that we should come see them; and, I think we will. Sounds like visiting, maybe July-August, might keep us out of bad weather.

Long story to say, John, it may seem that the snow/ bad weather is endless (as I feel about the wind and sand), but at the end of the day the good outweighs the bad, generally (in our case I've told DW the houses are being sold and I'm moving "somewhere", "anywhere" that doesn't have the constant wind/dirt and never ending taxes....... Now to see if there is such a place.....

Every place I've ever been has taxes and most (there are some exceptions) states have pretty much equal taxes. Some "collect it" in the form of income tax, some collect it in the form of property tax, some collect it "a little of each and add in fees like "high vehicle registrations" additional taxes or fees, etc.

All told, most places I've lived, the "government costs" are pretty much the same, just taken out of different pockets.... It all comes from the same "poor soul that has to pay" so whatever they choose to call it, it's about the same cost....

That said, we're in Michigan because my DW was born and raised here. Her family all lives within a mile of our place, so we're together most of the year and, if something should happen to me, she has her support system already established (you know, someone to help her with the snow shoveling, starting the tractor and storing their stuff in her pole barn LOL

Anyway, there is something special about every state, just ask the people who live in it and they'll all tell you why "theirs is best".... Well, with a few exceptions, that is.....

As for Michigan, it's almost always "nice enough to camp in the summer", great winter sports, fishing is "out of this world" and there are still places where you don't hear a siren for months on end.

Life is good, no matter where one chooses to live if you can make the best of what that place has to offer..... Yeah, I know, I can't believe I just said that after looking out the window at that drift......

You are right. I never believed I would be in W TX now 12 years ago when I retired (all those dreams). MIL lived here, 45 miles away and we were the only family she had since she had moved from PA and FIL had passed. We stayed for her, and it was a HUGE blessing for all of us that we did, and she passed away in August of 16. If we hadn't stayed it would have been inconceivable. I promise, as you know, there is a plan for all of us. The charge we have as individuals is to look at the high side; think positive and always move toward what's best for us and the family. I've been blessed, in many ways, and, I DON"T HAVE TO SHOVEL SNOW. I am wishing you and everyone else caught in this stuff quick relief and a return to warm, nourishing sunshine! SPRING IS COMING!!

Well, our snow is supposed to quit about 1 or 2 am. I’m just hoping the wind quits as well.

And, sorry guys, but I couldn’t resist....

.

Love that one Lynette.

We are under a snowfall warning here this morning. Supposed to be 8 to 10 ".

So far this winter we have had 104" or 8' 8".

ENOUGH !
