anyone towing a 29rld with a 1/2 ton

Hey folks, New member here. We are trying to find a new TT that meets our needs / wants and is safe to tow.

We like the 29rld. Wondering if anyone is really pulling one of these TT's or similar with a 1/2 ton. I know they are advertised as 1/2 ton towable, but...

We are trying to stay below 8000lbs loaded but that sure looks like a nice TT

Would be using a 2018 F150 4x4 crew cab with max tow package ( 12, 000 lbs I think ) and 2300 payload.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

I am sure you will get more feedback but here's my opinion;

The 29RLD will max out at a little over 9500 lbs. Figure 11-1200 lbs. for tongue weight to start you off. That would leave you about 1100 lbs. of your payload. 100 for hitch = 1000. People, gear, puppies, tools and misc. in the truck will have to fit into that 1000 lbs.

The 2300 payload gives you more latitude than most 1/2 tons (I am assuming that is from the sticker in the driver door). The problem comes from....it's a 1/2 ton and it's a 9500 lb. trailer. If you COULD get by at 8000 lbs. that would be good but that only gives you approx. 600 lbs. of "stuff" to put in the trailer. I figure our food and cookware weighs more than that....not to mention the "28 pairs of shoes" in the closet.... The 1/2 ton is typically not meant for that heavy a trailer IMO. They are too light and the trailer is 34' long meaning the truck has to counter a lot of pushes, shoves and pulling. Another aspect is the tires. 1/2 tons usually come with P rated tires, you need LT tires for a 9500+ trailer. Forget the tow rating numbers the manufacturers provide - they are worthless. Look at the rest of the numbers and leave yourself a good 15% margin under the max ratings.

riven 1950 Not to dissolution you but our f150 has a 2040# payload. Pull a loaded 24' TT that has been weighed at 6600# loaded with 820# hitch weight on a Equal-i-zer e4 hitch. Have LT tires running at 50#psi. I have many years of towing experience. It tows good but I would say this is about max for a 1/2 ton. Stay with something a bit lighter. JMO YMMV

I just got a Bullet 261rbswe we are pulling it with our 2015 1500 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi and .321 rear diff/8spd.trans.
I haven't done much towing with it yet. Its empty weight is about 5600# with a GVWR of 7600. I really wouldn't feel comfortable with anything bigger than that.
