Shocks don't hold the truck up that's the springs job. In the case of the Bilsteins, that a coil over shock.

I'm very familiar with coilovers and have used them for many years. There are some as shown below that are exclusive to your "only" springs and some are in addition to the original springs on the vehicle.

But true standard or HD shocks alone do not raise or lower your ride height. Granted the new shocks are gas over oil and do have "some" compression resistance, but if you can squeeze them together by your hands, they will not do one thing to the ride height. But as shocks are designed to do, they do meter the speed at which the oil is transferred from one side of the shock piston to the other side.

Overload shocks come with springs around the shocks and are intended to ADD spring pressure to the vehicles suspension. These are know by many names and I'm really not trying to get into any argument about shocks, but they are what they are.

"IF" I go an add-on route, it will be the air bags by Air Lift. They've been in business for decades and have a great reputation.

And yes, that is my car in the picture above. I built it in 2000 and drove it a couple years and sold it. This is the ONLY vehicle I have sellers remorse over. I may have an opportunity to purchase it back in a few more years. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I do really appreciate all the input. It's great to hear what others have done. THANKS!

Normal shocks don't affect ride height.

If you go to the airbag system, I would upgrade that to the compressor install on TV.
Well OEM shocks may not dampen as well as good aftermarket, doesn't mean they are bad at 100K miles or so.
This is an entry from my service record on our old 2001 Ram 2500 bought used at 234K miles. First owner used to carry a TC.
12/18/12 255,314 New Bilstein 5100 Front & Rear removed OEM Factory Org.

Yes, I know they were the factory OEM! They were still gas charged and did a decent dampening effect, the Bils were just a big improvement!

On my 2013 f350, at 80,000 miles I had the shop check the rear shocks OEM just to see if any problems. One was done, it was collapsed, not doing anything for the suspension. It happens..

Not having any history more than two months of my truck, I will replace shocks all around just to be on the safe side. I know the fronts are marginal now.

If you decide to do bags I have a set I took off my '10 last month. They were on there for a month then traded to a 3500.
They are torque TR2299 no drill.
