switch behind the tv
Hi all,
I have a 2017 RESWE. We were just out in Lodi this weekend and our air conditioner did not work. Ninety degree heat and no air. I posted on Facebook that we had no air and someone responded that on his Keystone trailer there is a switch behind the TV that has to be turned on for his air conditioner to work. So I flipped the switch and the air conditioner works! Anyway, what else does this little switch control?
It is located behind the TV and we thought it had something to do with the TV. We took our trailer back to the dealer in 2018 because the air condtioner would not work and it turned out to be faulty wiring behind the refrigerator. We were pretty upset when we thought we were going to take the trailer in again for air condtioning and it turned out to be just a flip of a switch. That's a mighty powerful switch!
Thanks

Welcome to the Forum
On some 30A models the switch will direct the AC voltage to either the roof AC or the microwave. I am not familiar with your specific trailer but I willing to bet that's what it is. Good thing its working if your in Lodi, I'm in Modesto and its going to be very warm this weekend.

The microwave always worked. I thought, after flipping the switch, that using both would trip something. My husband said go ahead, let's test it out. So we had the air going and then started the microwave. They both worked and nothing tripped. It's still a mystery. I have all the written information for the trailer but I don't see anything about this switch.

Thank you
I cannot tell you how close we were to ripping open the ceiling or walls to replace the wiring to our AC unit. We had realized the power was going through the breaker fine but wasn't actually getting to the unit. We'd tried everything we could think of. We called RV repair. Today, I'm looking at tons of forum posts and I come across this. I knew precisely the switch you mentioned, and I ran inside to try it out, and lo and behold, the switch sends power to our AC unit. I can't believe there is no documentation about this switch. I assumed it had to do with the entertainment system. Thank you thank you thank you!

Well, this is a "first" for me. I've never heard of having a switch that kills power to the air conditioner (except the breaker in the electric panel), or one that would be used to flip from AC to Microwave. I suppose there are still new things this old dog hasn't encountered yet after all!

I am happy you found the info you needed and it fixed you up. I'm sure I read this thread but that switch did not log in my brain either. Good info to know and thanks for bringing it back up.

It was quite common in a number of units for a few years. I’ve seen it on older units, and since I work on a lot of “older” stuff I see a lot of old technology. Currently have a 1990 Barth motorhome, still has the original leather upholstery.

What's common is a switch that chooses between the A/C and the fireplace, because you usually don't have enough power in a 30A rig to run both. And they can hide those suckers cleverly (often in an overhead storage compartment). So do you have a fireplace?
(Ignore the cruft below -- I thought this was the thread with the mystery switch on the night table.)
But this is the first time I've seen it on a piece of furniture in the bedroom. (At least I think that's what I was looking at -- if there's a switch somewhere in that wide-angle shot, it's well below my discrimination.)
