New Tow Truck

I have been looking for a new tow truck but I wanted a 2018 body style 3500 so after looking on the web I seen that the dealer had some leftover 2018 ram 3500 and 2500 diesel. So I took the wife and myself down to the dealer to look at them and low and behold their they were.

The leftover 3500 had only 19 miles on it, it came with a backup and bed camera which I could use back up to my fiver. This is a loaded SLT with everything that I will use, the only thing that it didn't have that my have is heated seat and steer wheel, don't care for that anyway it even had the factory gooseneck hitch package prep.

I don't have it yet because I told them that I have a few stuff that I have to take off of my 2500.

LOVE that color (same as mine)!!

Something I learned on mine that is probably still the same on the 18s - if you get the backup camera only the picture is on the 8.4 big screen. If you get the bed camera AND the backup camera the big screen is for the bed camera and the backup camera shows up in the corner of the rear view mirror - virtually useless, and that's the one I need with a bumper pull. With a 5th wheel the bed camera very well may be the perfect solution.

That's is a quick fix. Take it to the dealer and they can switch the two cameras in about 15 minutes. I verified this with my brother who works at a Dodge dealer as a service writer.

Thanks! I'll try again. When I first got it I was really upset and talked to them (the dealer) twice and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I did contact Chrysler about it and voiced my displeasure. Maybe they did something about it (I hope).

If the dealer still wont do it here is an aftermarket solution.

Here is a Ram forum that addressed the issue you are having. it is an aftermarket switch but it seems to be working.

I have 2018 Ram with both bed camera (they call it cargo camera) and the typical reverse camera. Either shows up on the center display screen. It defaults to the reverse, but you can touch the upper corner to toggle back and forth as needed.

Mine has the pictures of the 2 different cameras in the upper left corner indicating I should be able to select one or the other but it won't switch. Dealer said that's the way it is. I'll revisit that with them.

Ram fixed the toggling between cameras in 2016 prior to that you could not switch them unless you reversed the wiring or did the aftermarket changover.

Which side is the transmission dip stick. Drivers side of the engine or passengers side? Aisin vs 68RFE. Chris

Ahhh! Thanks. That explains that. We are/will be looking for a new vehicle so will probably just let it ride until I get it and then make sure it works correctly.

My friend with a 2015 and bed camera sure would like to know how to reverse the backup camera to show up on the 8.4 display vs the mirror display. Do you have details or reversing the wiring? Chris

Well if it is equipped similar to this one, they did a pretty good job. I would have traded the Sun Roof for the Aisin tranny however.

Yep, I'm not fun of the sun roof and it was hard to find one with the Aisin tranny but for what I tow (12,000-13,000 lbs) fiver this will work.
