I would think it would be better to charge each 6 bolt battery individually. Two 6 volt in series might be too much for your smart charger. Check your owners manual.

That works to charge them up. I've got a 22RBS and didn't like the wimpy battery tray either when I put my two batteries in. I took a piece of angle iron that I had laying around and welded it under the tray for extra support. Also beefed up the welds on the existing tray.

Sorry I can't get the picture oriented correctly!
