Wifi Thermostat

Had been wanting to replace the old Coleman Mach slider thermostat for quite sometime. After some research went with the Ecobee Smart SI. The swap was pretty straight forward as I only have a single ducted AC and standard furnace in my 2013 Laredo FW. To give the hi/low fan option I also added a remote switch. Being able to remotely control the system while snowbirding in the south is very convenient for us. Turning the AC on while heading home after a trip to town is a nice touch. It is rated 24V but operates fine on 12V as previous “installers” discovered. For the power it is best to use a source other than the stock furnace 12V. It tends to pull the voltage below 12V but tapping into another circuit resolved that. Ecobee tech support used to be very good but now will not provide any support for RV installs. In fact, I was told initially it would not operate on 12V even though there are blogs on their website that tell otherwise. After repeated emails they still refused to offer any assistance. The one difficulty I had and requested help with (unsuccessfully) was the A/C fan would come on at times when heat was selected. After much experimenting, that was resolved in the settings by designating it a hot water system instead of gas. That stopped the system activating the fan mode during the heat cycle. The fan circuit only controls the A/C. The furnace fan is controlled by the furnace on/off input. As long as you have a wifi source the Ecobee Si app, IOS or android, works great to monitor and control this thermostat.

Thanks for the write up. That makes me wonder if the honeywell thermostats that indicate a need for 24v will work with "only" 12v...
