'10 Laredo 245RL nose insulation
I've noticed that our '10 Laredo 245RL gets REALLY cold in the storage cabinets over the bed and the bedside closets. Anyone poked around in there enough to see if adding insulation is doable without pulling the nose cap off?
Thanks!

I cannot speak to that trailer but, I have found that is normal for RVs. You could leave doors open to get heat into them or maybe cut vent holes in them so heat from inside the trailer gets into them.

A friend of mine removed the decorative façade/panel at the head of the bed which gave him access to the front cap of the RV. It wasn't complicated - just removed several screws holding the decorative wood panel in place.
He found that the insulation in the front cap of the 5th wheel, had fallen down to the bottom leaving a large, uninsulated section. Previously, he had noticed a draft coming from the front and headboard area of the nose cap. The two cupboards/clothes closets on each side of the bed were also unusually cold.
After adding more insulation and ensuring that it wouldn't fall to the bottom, the cold draft seemed to disappear.

Thanks, Festus2. I'll give that a try and see what I can see.

Festus2, Howdy;
Strange this should manifest itself now that the evenings
are getting cooler.....
Does your friend have the same model as you and I have???
Mine was noticeably cooler last winter and I had gone about
8 miles over some washboard type road on my way South just before that...

Hank --
Almost the exact same model except his is a year newer - 2009. Same upper bedroom layout as ours. This problem was especially noticeable during bedtime - a cool draft could be felt at head level. Since the repair, no more drafts.

I noticed it most obviously during last year's hunting season with nights below zero F .. my wife just noticed it last weekend with 25*F nights.

cold closets
I also have the problem of cold closets. Mine is a 2014 Cougar 279RKSWE and we have taken it out 3 times now. Is this something I should bring up to the dealer? Not sure I can get my husband to start taking it apart right now. The advice I have read it great though.

You brought up the condensation issue with your closets in another thread and I have responded there. The problem that is discussed here in this thread speaks to a cold draft felt at the head of the bed during colder outside temperatures. It had nothing to do with cold closets or condensation in them.
I wouldn't start taking apart the decorative façade/panel at the head of the bed unless you feel a cold draft coming from the area. I think your bed faces side to side and not front to back so you may not feel a draft on your head what would be coming from the nose of the 5th wheel.

Mine is a different animal as I have a bedroom slide...but. In my front closet, the DW had about 10 pairs of shoes crammed in and one of them knocked off a piece of moulding. I could see in to the front cap threw the opening and I wasn't really surprised at what I found...after my underbelly thing... or what I found in the chin area. What I saw was fiberglass batts running vertical, hanging at the top and not secured to anything on the sides of the batts.
My plan for when the sun comes out is to remove the front cap and Spray Foam it like my underbelly.
The other place that cold enters the bedroom from is the chin area. If you remove the skin...you will see the frame work and the bottom of the sub floor with no insulation. I Foamed this area as well....but didn't take pics

This must be the norm on these trailers. On our 5er, there is a little 'cubby hole' recessed into the headboard (our bed is oriented fore and aft). The 'cubby hole' and the wall below the mattress would get very cold with condensation where the mattress meets the wall. I removed the head board and the luan box that makes up the shelf. There wasn't any insulation in the nose cap of the trailer.
There is now. No more cold heads at night
