JRTJH, thank you for the reply. Guess I didn't look at it that way. Guess I'll try and fix the sloshing out the vent problem and do as others on here have done and carry an extra water tank and pump for extended dry camping stays.

If I am interpreting these posts correctly, there is a siphon action being created allowing the water to continue to flow from the tank. Check to insure that the vent line doesn't have an upward curve or 'hump' in it. If the vent line has a high enough hump in it, and then becomes filled with water during a turn, the weight of the water draining from the vent (path of least resistance) will pull more water into the vent and this will continue until the distance from the water level in the tank to the top of the 'hump' becomes greater then the distance from the hump to the vent opening to the point that the column of water on the tank side of the 'hump' is too heavy for the vacuum created by the siphon to pull it up over the hump.
I would make sure that there is either a 'straight shot' from the vent to the tank or , at least, a very low upward curve. A sag or downward curve might cause a blocked air flow out the vent while filling. FWIW

Do you think there would be a problem with putting in a "loop"? I don't use the vent to fill the tank anyways, so I don't care how hard it would be to use as a fill.

If you have a loop and that loop fills with water, then when you try to fill the fresh tank, the water in the loop will not allow venting.
Doesn't take very much blockage to make a fresh tank blow up. I would be a little reluctant to make a loop.

I know it has been a while discussing this problem, but I need to figure something out to keep from losing so much water.
The vent comes straight out from the top of the tank (on the side) and straight to the vent just about 1 foot away. I was considering putting a loop between the tank and the vent, add a T in the bottom portion and run it down through the under belly and put a valve on the end. That way I can open the valve to let the water out of the loop in the winter.
The question is this: Will the tank vent properly with a loop full of water? I don't see that I have many options. Last resort will be to "plug" the vent while driving then wait for the day that I forget to take out the plug and bust the tank. I also thought of adding some scotch brite pad to the vent to slow down the amount of water that comes out.

The hose is right under the decking above. There is very little room to make an uphill loop. That is what I was planning on doing originally until I pulled back the underbelly and looked at it.

Fresh Water Tank Emptying While Traveling
We filled our tank, ran the pump and fill the WH, topped off the fresh tank again. Tank meter also registered full.
Note- The Fresh Tank drain was closed.
Drove 400 miles and only had 1/3 of a tank. Fortunately we had the opportunity to fill it before our final stop. Verified it was "full" again.
Drove 25 additional miles to camp. Tank was only 2/3 full.
Set in camp and there was no visible leaks on the ground, so the water is getting dumped during transit. Friends following said water was sloshing out the vent hole.
Thanks,

Yea its really aggravating. Apparently, with the construction of different models, there are very little differences with the vents and that is why some dont have problems while others do? I can see the water pour out even if only 1/3 or so full when going around right hand turns on the highway. I will try something this early spring and report back.

This isn't an ideal solution, but you could put a cork or a rubber stopper in the vent opening, just remember to remove it when you park, or you may wind up collapsing your fresh water tank as you use water from it.

So yesterday I "rigged" a looped in the vent for the fresh tank. I couldnt find 1 1/4" hose that was as flexible as the factory hose so I bought 1" "spa" hose from Lowes that with a little help fits inside the factory hose. Then a 1/2" threaded pvc "T" at the bottom. I then installed a male pex connector with about 3" of pex and a plastic pex valve that sticks out the bottom of the under belly so I can drain the loop for winterization. I have no idea if it will fix the problem but I will fill our tank full before our first outing this year and give it a try.

NOPE! Still spilling around turns. It may not be as bad, but still comes out even with a complete loop. The only fix is going to be either but a valve in the loop and try to always remember when to open it, or bring the vent up through the floor, into the living room, and through the wall at a higher location. What a crappy design. I cant believe more people have not noticed this.

From what I'm reading sounds like it's a short, rather low direct vent from tank to side and said line runs tight against the floor. Just trying to visualize in my limited mind but I think I'd try getting some line and a 90 elbow or 3 and run the line with a 90 just above the tank, then a horizontal run over to the side. Another 90 for the vertical run up to the height of the vent, then ab90 to connect to the vent.
I may be completely flawed in my thinking but I'm guessing the 90 will allow air to flow but act as a baffle to slow down the water.

I think that as I am going into a right turn, the water flows over to the vent side and on some roads, this leaves the vent actually lower than the tank. Then once it fills the vent and comes out, it acts like a siphon for the rest of the turn.
It seems much better than before because the only time we dry camped a couple of years ago, we filled our tank full at the campground and it was pouring out while backing into the site. I dont think it will do that now, just around turns on the roadway. My wife was driving behind me and having to use her windshield wipers, so its not just a little hitting the pavement.

When the water spills out it enters the airstream at whatever speed your traveling. Just like following a driver that's using their windshield washers. A little bit of water seems like a lot when it's atomized into a mist.

The problem is I left with a full tank (62 gallons) and had less than 2/3 when arrived. This was before adding the loop so I dont know how much difference it made. But I'm not talking about a little bit of water. When losing 20+ gallons on the drive, thats too much

20 gallons over 400 miles would be a loss of .05 gal/mile or roughly 5 1/2 oz per mile . I agree it's too much, good luck finding a remedy and let us know if you find one that works.

Im sorry I didnt include the distance. It wasnt 400 miles. It was 56 miles from my house to Cades Cove campground. Then I noticed we were not full, so I topped it off at the water station before getting to the site and it was pouring out as I backed into the site. Again, Im not talking about a small amount of water.

I've been giving this problem a lot of thought, and maybe there is another issue that is causing the water to come out of the vent. Our rig does not leak water from the vent while traveling. But thinking about this issue, there has to be air getting into the tank from a different location so the water can exit from the vent line. If the tank is tight, except for the vent, water just can't run out without a source of air to fill the void left by the water draining out. I'm thinking you have another hole in the tank, not sure where this might be, but probably on the top somewhere.

Im sure that is possible, but some water could come out and create a small vacuum for just a moment while turning to the right then when the rig is straight the air could go back in to equalize the air while waiting on the next right turn. I was hoping by putting a loop in the vent and it filling with water, that it would deter water flowing out. I do think it has helped, maybe even quite a bit. I have only gone on one trip. We have one more planned next weekend and it will probably be the last. I may fill the tank full and see how it does when we get there. Its only a 22 mile trip but with steep and curvy roads. We'll see!
