Rear Wall Replacement

Good Evening!!
I recently bought a 2010 Springdale and after getting it home found the two rear roof corners and back wall were water damaged. I already have the rear panel off the camper and will be replacing the wall framework.
My first question is and from looking around on the forum, it appears the rear Filon panel may have been a "free floating" panel with a cardboard backing that was only attached around the outside edge of the camper? Is this correct?
Second, since this card backing is pretty much ruined, what do I use for a new backing?

Thanks!!

You can purchase filon that is already glued to a luan backing. Your other option is to buy the filon, and Luan and “build” the wall.

Last shop I worked at used “Sta bond” applied with a paint gun.

Luan seems difficult to find and my local RV dealer wants $350 freight per 2 sheets. Is there another backer besides luan for the floating Filon panel? I plan to reuse the panel.

Must be a geographic issue.

The backer does not have to be luan.
I wouldn't be afraid to use this from Home Depot in Duluth:
https://www.homedepot.com/p/SANDEPLY...9023/203414042
and they are supposed to have 45 sheets of it in stock.
If it is encased and caulked well you don't need to worry about moisture once it is installed. Or you could seal it with a water repellent before gluing to the filon. Or do both.

Another suggestion is to find some local boat builders in your area and find out where they get their marine plywood. 5mm marine ply would be an excellent backer. ( 5mm is a tad bit more than 3/16" )

No bends 1/4” would be okay. We use 1/8” when possible, it’s lighter and easier to handle.

Your corner molding may not cover the corner if the wall is too thick.

Rear Filon Panel

Good Morning All!!
I am still trying to find an answer on the back wall of my Keystone Springdale. My research has shown me that the rear wall on these are a "floating" type that is not completely glued down and only fastened around the edge and with whatever is fastened through the panel such as the lights.
My current project is a water damaged rear wall. I have the fiberglass panel off and it appears to have a thin cardboard type backing. Some of this cardboard got wet and is peeling off.
My question is, how important is this backing? Should I just scrape off the soft stuff and call it good? Should I worry about putting a different backing on it?

Since the Filon is very thin and comes in a roll, I don't think you will have any success trying to install it without some type of backer.

Do you think I could get away with cleaning of the soft backer and laying a new backer without cleaning the good backer off? The backing that didn't get wet is glued on very well.

Also, you mentioned no bend 1/8". What is that?

Thank you for the help so far.

From your picture it looks like the rear wall is straight with no arc at the top. 1/8" refers to the thickness of the backer.

Personally, I wouldn't try to fix that panel.

It's starting to look that way. And you are correct, it is straight at the top.
Thinking I will now order a new piece of filon and get some type of backing from home depot.
A quick Google search shows a lot of Arctic White filon available. Is it a safe bet to say that is the color used on my camper?

Your coach is 14 years old, I dont think a perfect color match is mandatory.

Lowes or Home Depot for construction materials.
Local, cheaper, easy return for material not used.

RV parts:
eTrailer.com, tweety's, affordablervparts.com,
Amazon is a good source where many parts suppliers sell or go direct to the parts companies thenselves.
