Autoformer

I know everyone says to match the Hughes autoformer with the unit ... but is there any reason why i couldn't use a Hughes 30 amp autoformer with my 50 amp trailer.

Park service is 30 amp

Trailer has a Progressive 50 amp hardwired in.

its about a 250 dollar difference in price to go up to the 50, plus any adapters and cables i might need.

Any idea what adapters/cabling i will need if i go with the 50 amp unit.

Also I should add that we are now in a permanent campground and it doesn't look like we will be moving out anytime soon.

A 30amp Autoformer will work fine assuming you are hooked to 30amp shore power.
I bought an Autoformer (50amp) last year even though I am at seasonal site with 30amp service. I figure I will be covered incase we travel.
The Autoformer is awesome. I was experiencing low voltage conditions on busy weekends and couldn't even make toast at times (as low as 107 volts). With the Autoformer, voltage never drops below 115. It works as advertised and was worth the cost.

I have the 30 amp Autoformer as well and love it, saved my butt many times! Now that we have a new camper with 50 amp service I need to replace my 30 amp unit and buy a 50 amp unit, dang it! I don't think the 30 amp you have will help you for a 50 amp service even with adaptors, it will work just not properly.

Well, gonna get the 50 amp autoformer anyways.

Also going to purchase the progressive 50-30 adapter instead of a dogbone type adapter .. anyone have any experience with these ?

Here is my plan:

- Pedestal (30 amp)
-- SSP-30 (30 amp surge protector)
-- RV 50-30 (so i can plug the 30 amp to the 50 amp autoformer)
-- HUGHES RV220-50
-- 50 amp cord to RV
-- Hardwired EMS-HW50C
- Hopefully Happy trailer.

Sound about right ?

Job done

Ok as stated in my last post the job is done. Everything seems to be humming along nicely.

Here is the install of the hardwired HW50C (going to mount the display this coming weekend )

333MKS install:

backwall table :

Umm .... i am not gonna fit in there so remove the whole thing to make the job easier:

Ahh , 15 screws later :

Cut 50 amp cable in half, there was about 2 feet extra that i could easily pull up , so that was nice and hardwaire in the unit:

Fire up the trailer power:

Clean up:

AC issues

I have a 92 montan. Last used ac 2 months ago and it worked fine. Now when I turn it on it cuts voltage back to 10.1 on all outlets etc. Cut the ac off then all other electric items come on and work fine. I have 50 amp service. There is a click of the thermostat when temp reaches the point it needs to come on. I am baffled to say the least. Not to take away from this thread but any help would be appreciated.
