I plan on running the cable on the outside for now and using the plastic conduit to clean up the installation.

Thanks for the help, I will let you know how it goes.

Finished my install. I was able to mount the camera above the back window and into the aluminum window frame.

I kept my cable on the outside of the trailer, by using the half round conduit on the back wall, and running the cable underneath along the gas pipe to the front.

Made a little bracket to hold the front trailer connector and attached it out of the way underneath the front basement door

Placed the monitor low on the dash using the supplied bracket. I did have to use self tapping screws to attach the bracket to the dash, but it's a old truck, so what the he**.

Nice install. I built a bracket much like yours, but installed it alongside the electrical junction box where the 7 pin cable is connected behind the pinbox. I wrapped the coiled camera cord around the 7 pin cable and installed the truck end of the camera cable beside the "in bed" 7 pin. That way, they're both right there together and it looks a little "cleaner" I think LOL

I'm sure you'll enjoy the ability to see directly behind your RV.

Happy Travels.

I know this is an older thread, but wanted to put out a question. We are buying a fifth wheel TH, and I would love to be able to just watch the camera backing it into the campsite, as well as next to my garage at home. It is either that, or we need to buy walkie talkies so I can hear my wife without her running back up to the truck. Those diesels are noisy when backing, etc. So, now that more time has passed since this thread began- what is the best system out there now? I do not want to spend $600 for a system, but I want one that works.

The Rear View Safety system that I installed is now 5 years old and has been installed on both our Springdale and now our Cougar as well as on our F150 and now our F250, so the entire system has been used on two RV's and two trucks. It continues to work perfectly to monitor our boat behind the fifth wheel and for backing into tight spaces. There are a number of systems available, some wired, some wireless. Anyone who is happy with their setup will tell you that it's the best. I'm happy, so "RVS RVS-770613-213 is the best" LOL

That being said, here's the link for the system I have which is the same as the one that Bowti installed. http://www.rearviewsafety.com/produc...5th-wheel.html

If you do decide to buy the RVS system, be sure to get the one with the Trailer Tow Quick Connect cable. It will make hitching and setup much easier and prevent wear and tear on connectors that aren't designed to be connected/disconnected frequently. It's well worth the extra $50, in my opinion.

I use the Peak wireless monitor that was for license plate mounting and I ran a wire(my electronic engineer buddy helped me here) from the camera all the way to the front of the 5er. That way the transmitter is right at the hitch head almost. it works fine but it does blank out sometimes if i hit a radar area. or I move my head a certain way," really it does" >> must the be the plates up there or my mind is too busy.. HAHA.
BUT have had it mounted since abou the first rip and its works great. I did have to get another transmitter once replaced free..

I have a hard-wired rear view camera on our 5vr. Works flawlessly. It's a bit of pain installing the system but it's well worth the effort. I leave it on all the time so that I can keep an eye on what's happening behind our 5vr.

We have the cheapest Peak wireless unit. The camera is on the bike rack at rear of the fifth wheel; about 40 feet of cable to the front of the trailer is the transmitter and the monitor is on the dash of my longbed truck. The monitor does go in and out occasionally but it is good enough to keep an eye on what is behind. Besides being handy for backing into a camping spot, it lets you know when you have room to pull over after a pass, although I don't pass very often.

I installed this Boss Audio system from Amazon. Its a wired system, ran 50ft cable under the 5th wheel to the 7 pin plug in. Also bought an extra license plate camera to use as a back up camera when not towing. Monitor is built into the rear veiw mirror....Total was under $200....It works well so far
