Our names are John and Patti Steinbacher and we will be transitioning from a House to a 5th Wheel and truck between Oct. 2015 and Mar. 2016. We live in O'fallon Mo. just west of St. Louis. Our future plans consist of purchasing a Montana 3402RL and a Ford F-350 for towing. We have a Goldwing and would like to take it with us. I have lived in 2 different types of RVs during my military career, a 24ft. Winabego Brave and a 39ft. Regal 5th wheel. Each experience was an education and enjoyable. Patti has moved around the country with her parents numerous times as her father worked for Boeing Missle maintenance for over 40 years. We would appreciate any guidance and advise you may have regarding RVing in a 5th wheel especailly a Keystone Montana. Thank you.

Welcome. We have a Montana 3100 RL, which is about 4 feet shorter and nearly a ton lighter than the one you have your eye on. A one ton truck should serve you well. The only question I would have is to do with the Goldwing. We also have a Goldwing but have yet to figure out how to take it along. Keystone makes it clear that any modifications including adding a hitch will void the warranty. Also, if you were to add a hitch, at least on the 3100, you have to add substantial steel members between the frame i-beams. Towing a small trailer or the bike itself behind the Montana is doable but may not be allowed in some states. I doubt you could carry a big bike on the back of the Montana. If you are starting from scratch and buying both a truck and the fifth wheel, you may want to consider a small motor home instead because a lift to carry the bike can be added to the rear of most motor homes. Have fun and let us know if you figure out a way to take the Goldwing along.

Looks like a nice rig, good luck. Just wonder though, why not get a toy hauler to bring the Goldwing.
