Cooking Splatters

I have an Avalanche 330 RE, was wondering how others that have their stove up next to the paper wall avoid having stains on it. What do you use to prevent grease and other build up on the wall ? I don't want to stain the wall or the border.

I have the same camper as you.. And this was only a minor concern for my wife and I... ~Most~ of our cooking is done outdoors... But we do occasionally use the stove. Having the stove that close to the wall on the right hand side can be a pain for cleaning. We just make sure to wipe it down with a hot/soapy sponge that we've wrung out really well. Doing it after each use is key so you never really have any build up. So far so good.

If the wife is cooking something that is going to splatter, we put up a piece of clear plexi-glas or the cutting board against the walls. Works for us. Yup grease can be no fun to clean up!

We've also used clear plexi-glass on the walls adjacent to the stove. I cut two pieces - one for the back and another for the side and used small, round, self-adhesive velcro circles to "attach" them to the walls. The velcro circles come in 2 or 3 various colours so you can use whatever fits in with your decor. The plexi-glass can be easily removed for cleaning and so far has protected the wallpaper and walls from splatter.

We have the same situation with our 5er and todate have just been careful and wipe down the wall with a sponge. Longer term I will try to find some plastic laminate to adhere to the wall behind the stove.
It amazes me that a simple problem like this wasn't picked up in the design stage by the Mfg. It would have been simple for Keystone to put up a backsplash. There are numerous design faux pas that I have noticed in our trailer and this is only our 2nd year camping. If I can come up with design changes to improve functionality I don't understand why the pros at Keystone couldn't. Its probably all a bottom line thing.

We don't have the same trailer as you, we have a Fuzion toyhauler with the Touring Edition 11 package. Keystone did address the splatter problem with a stainless steel back spash on the toyhauler but only with the Touring Edition 11 package the regular Fuzion did not have it. Works great and really looks good with the Touring Edition 11 logo engraved in it. George

Thanks all for the suggestions. I was going with the plexi-glass, however, thought maybe someone may have a better idea then this ole head ! At one point thought of putting tile there to match with decor but figured with all the bumping on the roads it would probably fall off even if it would adhere to begin with. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

HotRod...how about when you have it open for cooking? It can't protect the side wall only the back wall, correct ? Looks really nice and that guy sure has lots for sale. Will put him in my sellers list here. Thanks !

Yes you are right that it only protects the back and not the side wall. Very easy to install only 4 nuts & blots.

Lowes has stove backsplashes available in a variety of sizes and colors. When we bought ours, it was a 24" x 30" size in white and cost was $12 (or about that) held in place by 6 small screws through the predrilled holes. I used some double-stick tape in the center to prevent any bowing, but really it wasn't needed.

Our stove top does not have a side wall, so a piece of plexi-glass 36x18 was connected to the back wall with velcro. Seems to work pretty good and stays in place.

I use the stove cover to take care of the back wall and the sink cover to take care of the side wall.

Grease splatters

We do not get splatter because we use the stove to heat water, and do all the rest of the cooking outside over the wood fire.

I have seen press on "tin" tiles in different finishes and wonder if anyone thinks they might work?

Those are actually plastic panels that are installed using a special double sided tape. We did our entire kitchen at home with them and absolutely love the look and the ease of cleanup. This will give you a pretty good idea of the look of one of the styles they offer:

I used brushed stainless steel for all the electric outlets on the back splash which gave a great appearance to the whole area.

They clean up very quickly with any product like 409.

Installation is really easy as you cut the panels with a straight edge and a sharp utility knife.

I have this on my to do list for the Cougar when it comes out of storage in the spring.

I appreciate your input! I'll have to drag my hubby to the Home Depot and have him check it out! I think it would look nice to get some that would match our lighting and faucet.
