5th wheel or Gooseneck

New to the forum and it looks like a nice place! DW and I are looking for a 316RL 5th wheel to replace our Terry TT. I would like to put a gooseneck adapter on it for various reasons and wonder if the Laredo pin housing is sturdy enough to handle it. My son has a 12K lb. Weekend Warrior that he installed an adapter on and has had no issues with it, but the WW may be built up in the front. Is anyone using a gn adapter on their Laredo?

Have no experience with the adaptor, but was told by a keystone dealership that using one will void the warranty. Others have stated this here also. IMHO, I would avoid it. If you are just looking to avoid the rails in your bed, I would look at B&W's Companion hitch. It uses the same mount as the adaptor would, and lifts out of the truck's bed when not needed.

And to the group and good luck in your search.

Reese make a new set-up called a Goose Box, it replaces the current King Pin box, so it's not the usual adapter. As far as I know it is endorsed by Lippert and won't void the warrantly, but don't know the cost either, but does appear to be a viable option for those wishing a Goose Neck hitch on their 5ers.

Very impressive unit! http://www.reeseprod.com/content/pro...ID=7390&part=0

I found prices ranging from $870 to nearly $1,200 for the same item on one internet shopping search. Prices above $950 generally have no added shipping cost.

I have a pullrite hitch, the rails come completely out. It's under mount that way I have my truck bed when I need it. I love the hitch

If I heard correctly, Pullrite makes a slider that works with B&W's Turnoverball hitch. Love our Companion, but if I were ever to buy a slider, it would be that one. B&W is making a slider too, but it won't be automatic, from the dealer told me.

The PullRite looks very nice but the price is high! The Reese is nice but is'nt a slider and the the GooseBox is also an idea. If I have my druthers I think I would go with the PR if I can find a better price.

Can anyone tell me for certain who makes the Laredo 316RL frame? Or can anyone tell me if a Reese Goosebox would fit? I believe they are currently made for Lippert frames.

I'm pretty sure its still Lippert making the frames (for better or worse). If you must have a goose, go with the Goose Box. Don't mess with adapters.

Gooseneck adaptor

My setup is from Draw-Tite Highrise 18k goose neck adaptor. I have a Reese under bed goose neck hitch. This setup is a easy to use. Pull the release and the hitch pulls up and out. Whole unit is a little heavy. You have to separate the swivel head and it make it a little more manageable. This will give you all the room in the bed and you don't have to worry about any rails getting the way.

Thanks for the additional inputs. Regarding the draw-tite, do you have a short bed? And what 5th wheel are you towing?

Well after way too much research and various opinions from forum members I decided that the standard 5th wheel hitch would leave me one less thing to stress about on the road. I ordered a PullRite Super Slide and Super Rail kit. Now all I need to do is find a nice 316RL to tow with it !

Man! I wish I would have became a member before today lol I have the reese goosebox and absolutely love it. Air ride quality is awesome! Fits lippert pin boxes, and is endorsed by lippert for use on their frames. And yes you're laredo is a lippert frame. Never the less, I love it because I have a completely open bed when towing. No extra hitches to buy beside itself. It cost me $1000 installed. Had the dealer install it when I bought the camper new, that way there wasn't any question of warranty should anything happen. But absolutely love the thing! Did I mention the air ride is awesome when towing a 5'er lol

I have an adapter on a 2011 310RL Laredo and no problems for 2 years. My dealer installed it for me so he obviously wasn't worried about it.

Oddly enough my dealer wanted me to sign a paper releasing them from responsibility and agreeing I understood it void my warranty for installing my goosebox. I explained and forced the issue and refused to sign because the goosebox is endorsed by lippert. They finally backed off and dropped and tore that paper up when signing for my camper.
