Question EZCamp Remote

I was wondering about the EZCamp Remote which comes(perhaps came?) with the Cougar Fifthwheel units. When I picked up my new FW several weeks ago, the remote was missing and mentioned it when I took my unit back for service this past week, and they said they would get a replacement. What was interesting was the Service department guy sort of blew off the remote, saying that if you used the remote to put the slides out, you need to finish with the remote. Something about if you use the remote part way, it disables the interior switch until fully extended/retracted - and vice-versa, so there are some known problems. Of course, he was saying, well you need to make sure everything is out of the way when opening/closing the slides, so it was better to use the inside buttons. He sort of implied the remote wasn't worth the trouble?

Does anyone have any comments about the remotes - good/bad/whatever?
For most things I could agree with the guy, but when using the landing gear and rear jacks, it sure seems like it would be much better to be able to see the hitch or feet of the jacks instead of sticking your head at a weird angle to know when to raise or lower the landing gear and jacks, which is what I have been doing.
Also in another post, seemed like someone was saying they discontinued the remotes? I still see them on the 'keystonerv.com' site. Assume it might be a different model from ours.

I use mine all the time. Its nice to be able to watch the slide come out and make sure its not going to hit anything like the power pedestal or water riser.. And when back under the king pin I can sit in the truck and lower/raise as needed.

The hitch up lights on the front, If you turn them on with the remote you have to turn the off with the remote. That is the only thing I know about. Never tried it with the slide start it with the remote and then try the panel..

I lost my remote but found one on eBay a lot cheaper than the dealer.

We use the heck out of it! Never any issues and of course we watch everything when setting up. It's really convenient.

Ya that service guy is full of it. I use mine all the time. It doesn't matter if you start with remote and finshed up with a switch on your panel, Or the other way around. A switch is a switch remote or hard wire. Sounds like someone that doesn't own a RV.

My remote sits in a drawer. Only time I used it was when the front jacks fuse blew and during the initial play period.

Different strokes I guess.

Cheers Ray

Thanks for the views on the remote

I thought his comments seemed odd. Especially had a one of the situations someone mentioned: This RV is new to me, and when pulling in, didn't allow room for the slide-out. My wife is inside pushing the button, and I'm outside yelling, stop it's going to hit to power pole!
With the remote I could have watched it personally, so I see it makes sense there too.

It almost makes you wonder if they're a high service item, and they get tired of working on them

During camp setup and break down we have a procedure for the slide. My wife is inside and controls the button and I'm outside watching the clearances.

We can see each other through the slide window and use hand signals. If you stand outside with no one inside and the slide starts to crush something in the way you'll never know till you wonder what the weird sound is.

Slide in - inside, Slide out - outside

Sounds like Karate Kid, Wax On, Wax Off. Regardless of using the remote or inside buttons, definitely being where something can crunch is the only choice.

I could assume that you could do something wrong, if you had something tied to slideout when putting in or out, but nothing like crushing a chair or cracking the outside Fiberglass.

Hey I just thought of something... So are these remotes on different frequencies? Could you pull in to a site and bring in your neighbors slide or worse the landing jacks?

Ok found this, you have to sync the remote with your system.... Makes sense.. Duh...

For those functions you have to hit two buttons on my remote so maybe there is extra stuff going on to prevent that. The security light is only one button to activate though and I have seen it come on for no particular reason. hmm

Yes you can do damage,I had two foot stools in the back corner.
Did not notice one had angled outward, put big slide out well started
to hitting that stool knocked the slide off 1 1/2 inches.
I was using the remote outside.

I use the remote for the landing gear only. The only problem that I have is the internal panel there is no rhyme or reason to their location and they are not labeled. On my panel I have 2 switches (1 labeled awning the other nothing) in the middle row, 3 switches not labeled on the bottom row. Once I removed the panel face I realized that swapping the wiring behind the switches was just a matter of releasing the plug and inserting it in another switch location. Now middle row from left to right 1)Living room slide and 2)awning. Bottom row front to back 1)bedroom, 2)bathroom closet slide, 3)kitchen entertainment slide. This makes sense to me when I stand at the panel. Life is good.

I actually use mine a lot but, as mentioned above, only for the landing gear and rear stabilizers NOT the slides. A member on another forum lost their dog when operating the slide! No way I don't want to be inside when those are actuated. I also use it for the awning. Generally my wife operates the slides while I am outside to watch for obstructions.

I like to use it when I'm backing into the hitch occasionally if I'm off just a tad and I also like using it when I'm lowering the stabilizers so I can position the blocks without having to go back and forth to the front of the unit.
