need to have keys made

I need another set of keys for my 327. Can I get them made at Walmart or do I have to go to a locksmith?

Most places do not have blanks for RV's. Many locksmiths have trouble setting up their machines for the small RV keys.

You can go to your dealer's parts department, they usually have blanks for the trailers they sell. They may also know where to get them cut.

Easiest is to use a internet site like http://www.rvlocksandmore.com. They can cut a key from the number stamped on the key. Pay close attention to your old keys, there are several manufacturers that have very similar keys.

If your key has an FIC on it, Check out this Link. They sell the Locks and Keys that are used in most RV's.

Thanks everyone. Called my local dealer and they have what I need. Does it bother anyone else that they sell a ring of keys that would open most RV locks?

On the site I looked at, it stated you be a verified dealer before they would sell you the key "ring". This had to be verified. I think that is fine.

Howdy All;

I took my "Standard" lock sets to a locksmith and had him
re-key them and make a few extras for those Homer Simpson
moments... Total cost ... less than $20.00.

I have one set. I thought I'd get two more and keep one in the glove box of the truck. Between my husband and I it has become necessary to have extras!

In my previous job with FEMA, we had the "ring of keys" and also master keys for FIC and TriMark locks(attainable at RV parts stores, but controlled). The master keys fit the handle lock and the deadbolt of the FIC locks, but the master keys we had for the TriMark locks only fit the handle locks. When I got my trailer, the first thing I did was change out the FIC locks. I also changed the cargo door locks because most trailers use the "751" key. If you search the Internet, you will find a few different RV locks that are a little more secure than factory installed ones. As you know, trailer doors are not made of impenetrable steel, but I feel better knowing my locks are a little more inaccessible than normal.
Had to use spellcheck on that last sentence. LOL

Y'all do realize a good sharp pocket knife will open most RV's like a cardboard box... and a small nail bar is even faster.

I have seen some discussion that it might be better to leave your trailer unlocked. Thieves will do more damage getting in than the cost of what they take.

Yep. If you are worried about people breaking in at your campsite, you might better find another camping spot. That or just leave the trailer unlocked.

Yep, the locks on my trailer are for keeping the door closed and to give pause to the honest, they are not meant as a deterrent to those who choose to steal. The more difficult you make it, the more you convince them that it is worth their effort. Nothing will keep a dishonest person from stealing except a well placed bullet.

Howdy All;

One of the, if not the first question your insurance investigator
will ask is, Was it Locked??? If not I think you might have a harder
time getting any kind of settlement. Except for your deductible
they should cover any other losses as covered by your policy.
If the RV was unlocked they can say it is your fault and refuse to cover
your losses... They (insur. co's.), are in the business of making money
not paying it out.....
Just my humble opinion.

I agree about 95%- Most thieves - in a camp ground- or road stop- will give a quick pull on the handle. If locked they move on the the next unlocked unit. But if they want to they will get it.

I'm a door locker- all the time- including my home. I live in a great neighborhood, but this makes it a target for thieves.

But I do like you well placed bullet comment
