Pin Box ?
I need some help with pin box replacement. We have a 325 srx an on some roads it rides real bad in the truck. We added air bags to the truck an this helped a lot have only pulled about seventy miles with air bags . I still think it could be better an have been thinking of changing the pin box. I have read all I have been able to find . I would like to get info from someone that has made a change in the pin box. would you make the same change over or try a different type ? Thanks for any help. Dale

There are 3 pin boxes that are in common use: Trail Air, Mor Ryde, and 5th Airborne. The Tri Glide Air Ride (by Trail Air) is found on many units while the Mor Ryde and 5th Airborne are a bit less popular.
They all work well to reduce the chucking and the left-right movement in some cases. We have the 5th Airborne and have been pleased with the results. Others like the Trail Air and would recommend it.

Dale, I think you will get more help if you supply a little more info. What are you towing with and the year of your trailer. As for air bags... at times they can minimize the effectiveness of shock-absorbers by limiting their travel. Does your trailer have any type of shock dampening on it's axles? We need more info, Hank

The nice thing about the TrailAir Tri-Glide is that it combines the best features of several designs. The Air Bag and Shock for up and down movement, and the glide feature (very similar to the Demco) to help with the back and forth (chucking) movement. It's very interesting to watch in the rearview mirror and see the front of the 5er just sort of floating along.

I put a Mor-Ryde on my trailer and it helps a lot with fore and aft chucking, which was my only real complaint. It does nothing for up and down porpoising, but I wasn't having a problem there anyway. If porpoising is an issue with you, a moderate amount of air in the bags along with a GOOD set of shocks, such as Bilstiens, will go a long way towards solving it. At 1760 loaded pin weight you shouldn't have a porpoising problem as this is fairly light. Mine is an even 1000 lbs. heavier. I think that a lot of people make the mistake of running too much air in the bags and the truck starts bucking because the shocks aren't being allowed to do their job, as Hank stated above. With your pin weight I would think 25-30 psi (loaded) should be plenty. With my pin of 2750, I run 45-50 psi on my F-350 srw.

I second the motion on the Bilsteins. I've had 3 Silverados, and the ride improved greatly just by replacing the oem shocks on all three. I'm sure that would help, along with the other things mentioned already. Since your truck is an '02, maybe you've already replaced the shocks?

X3 On the Bilstiens
I put a full set on my Ram 01 2500 with a 2,300# pin and NO Bags, made a big difference!!
Now I need shocks on the 5er.

I won't own another 5er without it, best money I've ever spent on an "upgrade".
