Check on keystonerv.com for your specific model. I bet it more like 12’ something. 13’ 6 is the general break point for most roads and max for semi’s.

Our 2015 Cougar 5vr measured 12'-4 at the rear A/C and 13'-3 at the front one, also not a low profile. Yours may be about the same but I wouldn't take any chances. Find someone to get up there to get an accurate measurement for you (I always make my son get up there to do anything )

The legal trailer height in IL is 13'6". Ask your dealer why he sold you a trailer with an illegal height.

Most likely the 'dealer' was actually one of the salesmen, and they are the same that will tell you, no matter what truck you brought in, will also tell you it will tow your new rig just fine. I wouldn't put too much stock in anything most salesmen say to make a sale.

Wings, "I have a 2017 Cougar and the dealer said that it measures 14'8" at the front ac." Not true. Read the replies. Salesmen are hired for their silver tongues, not their knowledge of product. Hook up your RV and move to a reasonably level spot. Lay a 10' 2x4 across the highest spot (front AC), measure both sides 2x4 to ground, average the two and you have the height.

That sounds high to me. I have the same setup and I am 13'4". You really need to get out a straight board, level, and tape measure. It takes 2 people to do an accurate height measurement anyway.

Make sure you measure with your truck hitched. It will make a difference a few inches either way depending on how it sits on your truck.

I would disagree on that point.
I measured mine accurately by myself using only a 6ft carpenters level and a good tape measure.
Simply rest one end of the level on the highest point of your trailer (or try from a couple spots if you are in doubt) and measure down to your gunnel or another handy point on the edge of you trailer, while holding level, that you can also measure to from the ground.
Measure the remaining distance to the ground FROM the ground (or a ladder).

Add those 2 measurements for your total height.

I did some more research.

Illinois height code, from page #7 in the reference.

The maximum height for all vehicles on all highways is 13 feet, 6 inches,
including load, from the underside of the tire to the top of the vehicle.

Don't need a board or a level. Just measure the roof at the highest point of the AC. Then measure the distance from the roof to the top of the AC and add the two together. One person can do it.

Whether it takes one person, two people or the entire family, the general suggestion boils down to "Measure the height, don't believe the dealership".... That remains the sound advice of everyone so far who has posted a response.

I would suggest hitching the trailer to the tow vehicle, parking it on a level surface, place a 10' 2x4, laid across the highest point on the roof (probably the front A/C shroud, measure both sides, average those figures (actually it's "measure twice, cut once" at work).

There are a number of variations of the above, but again, the general suggestion is to measure it yourself and then you'll know for sure.

It's my understanding that in many states, if a vehicle is taller than 13'6", the operator must process an "oversize vehicle permit" before operating on the public highways. Some states even require a highway patrol or professional escort vehicle accompany that vehicle with flashing lights, front and back. I'd suspect that no RV manufacturer "purposely" builds an RV for the general public that requires "special handling to tow on any public highway"....

So, rather than believe the dealer, measure for yourself.....
