Wet floor

Hi. My 06 Springdale is my first RV. My slide has a slight leak but I was aware of that. I went on the side of the bed I don't sleep on today and my carpet is wet. It's not a slide out but it is by a window. I'm sure she needs to be recaulked by now so I'm hoping that's all it is. I know nothing about repairs but I'm learning as I go. I guess what I'm asking is could it be something besides the caulk?

It can be lots of things. I would suggest that you take a step back and immediately assess the trailer from top to bottom. If it has a leak there may be others or others about to happen. Look at the sealant on every roof seam (length and width), every entry through the roof (A/C, vents etc.) and everything around the windows, transition strips etc. Those things have screws under them and if water gets into those channels the next stop is your walls via the screws. The rubber/vinyl covers over those strips is probably worn out, cracked or missing if they haven't been replaced...which they should be.

Look everything over carefully. The sealant should be somewhat fresh looking with no cracks, pinholes or voids. Sealant along the transition strips and anywhere else that was sealed should be continuous and in good shape. Look it over and get back. There are specific products for specific applications so don't just start putting silicone on everything.

If your bed is in the front, you may have a small shelf that houses the water pump and some water lines. There should be a couple of screws along the front edge, and a magnet may help locating them.

One of the first things in owning an older camper is to get to the roof and reseal all the penetrations and the front and rear junctures between cap and roof and rear panel and roof. Use Dicor self leveling sealant (it looks like a caulk tube) on all horizontal surfaces and Dicor NON self leveling on vertical. After wiping the old Dicor with denatured alcohol you can cover the old stuff with more unless it is falling off then it may be best to remove it using a plastic putty knife or similar.
