Pump needs to be on when hooked to city water

We have an older Cougar 295 and or first time using it at a full-service site we had to leave the pump on as the site water would not work on its own. Seemed like there was lots of pressure. I tried with the water pressure reducer on and off, didn't make any difference.

Any ideas? thx

Welcome to the forum

What year is your trailer? Where you connect the city water is there a knob that turns 90 degrees to either tank fill or city water?

If you fill the fresh tank, disconnect from city water, does the water pump work and pressurize the trailer?

Could it be the city water and freshwater tanks are labeled wrong?

My guess would be the checkk valve in the city water fitting is stuck. Just inside the fitting where you screw on the garden hose is a check valve that keeps the water in the lines while the pump runs. Remove the water hose and you should see a plunger inside that female fitting. You can take a small screwdriver and GENTLY push it in to free it up. Once it starts to move, reconnect the water hose and run a cold water faucet to flush it out.
