2017 Premier 29RKPR - tow vehicle

I have a 2013 Ram 1500, tow capacity 8600 lbs. for the pass several years, I've towed my 246RBS Bullet cross country without any issues or stress. Just upgraded to Premier 29RKPR, dry wt of 6100 lbs. I would love to upgrade the truck to a 2500 or 3500, but not in a position at this time. I know the new trailer will be testing the limited of my truck, but interested if anyone out there has towed the 29RKPR with at 1500.

I'm thinking you have the 3:55 gears in your Ram. Does it have the 8 speed trans? We tow a 2013 Cougar 24RKAWE dry weight 5500# With a 3:21 diff. 5.7 and 8 speed trans. No issues. That new trans. makes up for a lack of power on hills and downshifts on the other side. Mind you a larger truck will be in the near future.

The weakest link in a 1/2 ton TV when pulling over 6000 lbs is payload. Things to remember when towing lengthy travel trailers include loading all luggage and cargo into the trailer (not the truck), mating the TV and trailer with an effective sway elimination hitch, and keeping the trailer's cargo spread equally over both axles. Obviously, a good brake controller, LT tires, air bags, trans cooler, and quality TV brakes will help make your rig safe too. If your not climbing the Eisenhower pass in CO every trip and you keep your weights within capacities, I don't doubt you can enjoy many trips with your trailer and Ram.

I towed my Cougar 32FBS with a 1/2 ton for a short period of time while looking for a new truck. Never white knuckled, it pulled it well but I was so worried about payload and rightfully so that I upgraded as soon as the right deal came along.

You didn't give some of the important info about your truck. I'm assuming you have the 5.7? 3.55 ratio? If so, the truck will pull it. It will not be the best towing experience. Your problem will be payload. Look at the door sticker to see exactly what that is. The tongue weight on the trailer will be at least 900 loaded (approx.). To that add your hitch (100+), people, cargo etc.

You will be skating close to some of your limitations but if you can live towing that close to being over limits without a safe margin, and living with some of the problems towing a larger trailer with a 1/2 ton presents, then you're probably going to be OK - you just need to double check all the numbers and hit a scale so you will know just where you're in jeopardy...if you are.
