2009 sprinter copper canyon 302fwrls water heater questions

Purchased used FW and need some info I cannot find. Water heater - want to run on electric most of time and gas when needed since at campground permanently; have switch at outside panel ON but not sure if switch inside should be on or off for electric - it’s on wall next to fridge and says HTR. Thank you !

The inside turns on the propane portion. I use it during showers along with the electric for a faster recovery.
