Repairing Bullet Torn Awning

Help Please!
During our last outing with our Bullet Premier 30RIPR, I was backing close to a tree for shade. Although a tree branch appeared to have only leaves, part of it poked through the first layer of our rolled up awning. It put two large tears in the awning. Since the awning is new, I have tried to patch it with "Sail Repair Tape" vs replacing it. But the tape does not stick. Can anyone give me ideas for patching the awning, as replacement is expensive?

There is actually an Awning repair tape that is clear, depending on the size of the tear it should work. you may need to stitch a long tear first. In the past I have used dental floss.

I've used the clear awning repair tape for a couple of "abrasions" we've experienced. Decided a piece on both the top and underside would work best. Got a year on the repair now and so far no problems. Here's a little more info that might help.
