New Laredo

We just bought a 2013 Laredo 335TG. This is our first 5th wheel. WE are going back to get it next Wednesday. Needless to say we are very excited. I'm a little nervous since I've never towed a 5th wheel.

My first question: How often do those of you with short bed trucks and a slider use the slider? I'm thinking about getting a Husky hitch and see how much clearance I have with the Laredo. I can then add the ezroller if I need it. Does that make sense?

I have the Reese 16k Slider.....and I use it routinely when I am manuevering in our provincial parks (that are not designed for anything over 20 ft).

I also find it easier to hook up with the slider back and the tailgate down.

I have the Husky 16k EZ Roller. Have had it for over three years. 15 camping trips (weekend getaways) a year at least. Never used the slider option. Doubt I'll ever need it, but I'm glad it's there if I ever do.

DITTO. Even with Keystone's unique front cap and the fact I've never needed it, I'm glad I have it just in case. Would I spend the money on anything fancier? Absolutely not.

Congrats on your new 335TG! We love ours. Feel free to compare notes as we have only used ours twice so far.

As for the Slider, we only use ours to store the RV. Initially, I was not using it, but found it a lttle easier due to the 90 degree turn we need to make.

It seems like you are fine until you get on uneven road. Some campgrounds really don' t have pads and you are parking more in a grassy field I automatically pull mine. Its more a safety issue and one less thing for me to worry about when I finally back into my perch. I just don't have to keep on eye on the cap of my truck plus the rear of the trailer and the tree next door and where the wife is standing and the elecrically box. You get the idea...
I would buy another slider.

I have the PullRite SuperGlide and I love it. It's a little spendy, but I don't ever have to even think about the trailer hitting the truck and I don't have to remember to get out and release the hitch. Your manual slider won't do you any good if you forget to get out of the truck and release it.

Happy trails,

Forget to pull the slide release?!

You should not be driving if you forget you have this option in a tight spot.

As previously stated, I never use mine unless just to ensure the mechanism is functioning properly. Hope I never need it, but, if I do, when I pull the lever, I want it to work properly.

After 2 years of towing this 36ft 5er, across US and back, we never needed to use a slide to maneuver the rig. I have the CURT hitch w manual slide pull.
for me, knowing it is there is comforting. Sometimes knowing you have all the tools for any situation is like carrying an umbrella on a sunny day....just in case...
