Vanity Light Bulbs, Bathroom

Our Alpine has 3 #9019 Frosted Vanity Bubs (Ping-Pong Balls) over the bathroom mirror. Momma wants more light for make-up etc... (They are kind'a puny for lighting, more for ambiance?)

Anybody have any experience with the LED replacements? Any brighter? Any other ideas? Those bugger are $20 +/- each. Not a cheap guy, but don't believe in learning by error either.

TIA

Cant resist, but I'm pretty sure the words ambiance and bathroom were never meant to be used together in the same sentence.

What style bulbs do you have? I bought a couple of different leds on ebay for my rig and love them.

And this is a link for the standard bulb, https://www.rvshop.com/Frosted-Vanit...t_p_62718.html

ok will order up a couple reg bulbs.

if led are so much better the cost must come down to affordable.
in my s&b the leds do not last as long as normal bulbs do. and then the stupid high cost. there is NO money saved useing them. pay the power co, over decades. or pay the retailer now.

Have had these LED vanity bulbs 4 years without a problem (full time)! Yeah they are not inexpensive! Then again if you go out to a nice dinner with the DW it could easily run $50.00... and in a couple of hours you are hungry again!!! I only needed 3.

if only they were cost effective to change over. i would do it.
but for me it would be over $100.usd with tax added.
and from spring of 2001. to summer of 2018. only one had a problem. it did not burn out, the glass bulb broke free of the 1156 base. might try fixing it to see if it still does work ( wires broken, mishandling, etc).

Here are the ones I used for the bathroom. I switched to a daylight color balance as it is better for the wife putting on the makeup.

Yes, just make sure the voltage and socket size are correct. Depending on the bulb, they will have the same ones in different color temperatures and you can also find different brightness levels. If you look at the Amazon link I posted, you will see that it lists the output lumens. Use that to compare for brightness. I also found a website that listed the standard brightness for the incandescent bulbs I was replacing so I could compare against the LED.

I came up with the perfect (AFFORDABLE) solution!

I picked up a blister pack of 3, #1156, (ol' school bayonette base back-up bulbs)! I'm embarrassed to tell you how cheap they were, but they did the job and gave my DW the light she was looking for! Now I can actually read Cabella's in the library, without straining my eyes.... LOL! They are pretty industrial looking, but at that price... who cares.

If that's not bright enough, in the old days we ground off the one excentric prong that made an #1157 polarized, and put that in the socket, It lit both filaments, but got HOT pretty quick.

Good Luck,

A standard 1156 incandescent bulb consumes about 27 watts at 12.8 VDC. For a fixture with three bulbs, that's about 80 watts of power. Typical LED bulbs with an 1156 base consume about 3 watts each. That's 9 watts for the entire fixture, about 1/3 the power consumption of a single incandescent bulb.

When camped with hookups, it doesn't much matter, but when on battery power, dry camping, using 80 watts to get the same light as you can get with 10 watts ???

Now, during the winter, the extra heat generated by those three incandescent bulbs might help heat the bathroom. During the summer, the heat may be an unwelcome addition.

The heat also has a tendency at times to bake the plug for the lamp as well as melt/deform any plastic covers.
