New Member New 5'er in SoCal

After years of planning and patience, we finally got our first RV.

Started looking at TT options and then decided on a 2016 Keystone Cougar 1/2 ton series 283RETWE Fifth wheel when after I did all of the math I realized my truck could handle indeed the load with no issues.

We've had it out twice already in the first month and next weekend we go again. With trips planned every 2-3 weeks for the next 2 months.

Tow vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Tundra.

to the forum and congrats on the first RV. I think you'll find that there are many good memories to be made camping in the RV.

I don't want to spoil the fun but a word of caution; you are pulling the 5th wheel with a 2007 Tundra. That trailer will weigh almost 9700 lbs. Pin weight is 1420 dry. If you figure 20% on the pin that's over 1800 lbs. The payload for the 2007 Tundra is 1680 lbs. which means you are overloaded before you add people, hitch, stuff or anything else. GVWR is 7000 lbs. Truck will weigh about 5200 + 1800 pin = 7000lbs. If you add people, hitch, and/or anything else you are over GVWR.

It's your first trailer and this is a common problem. Pulling is not the issue; weight is, and it's the biggest problem for 1/2 tons. Be careful and consider a bigger truck in your future so you can enjoy the trailer to the max.

Happy camping.
