2010 3750fl water heater issue ...need help
UPDATE: Yesterday I entered another post below stating the issue was solved...it was for a couple hours, but now everything has returned the way it was as stated below. Thank you for your replies
Our propane water heater ignites for 5 to 6 seconds...then shuts off.
This started when the 30lb propane tank went to empty
Replaced it with a new tank that was purged before putting in the propane
Maybe one or both could have started this....or something else.
The water heater runs fine on electric
Propane is flowing to the kitchen stove...all is well here.
All help and suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Mike

Hi Mike, sorry to hear about the troubles. My guess would be the thermal couple, since it's obvious you have propane in the lines. I don't have experience replacing a thermal coupleNJ on an RV water heater so don't know what all that would entail. But in residential appliances is not that expensive, though sometimes a bit awkward to work on.

Can you be a little more specific on what it's doing? "Ignites for 5 or 6 seconds"....do you hear the burner come on then shut off? Does the blower ever come on? Does it ignite right off the bat or does it click, click before it starts?

Apologize for this post as my wife read the manual and see pix for what solved this.
Per manual:
We did the ignition cycle 2 times with results as I stated in my post with same issue continuing....on the third cycle it stayed on per part 8 of the attachment and all is back to normal.
Little consolation for wasting your time = all of you can be 106% sure I have not heard the last of this from her!!!!

When I was doing the walk through of my TT the WH kept sputtering but stayed lit. The tech said it was normal. What he didn't say or possibly didn't know was once all the air was out of the lines it would work great with a steady flame. Just tell your wife you used the forum as a test case to see how quickly everyone would respond. If she believes you or acts like she does take her out for a fancy meal. Think of it this way, your DW now thoroughly understands the WH. Now you need to figure out a way to get her to read all the other manuals too. Have fun.

No, no, no! Y'all have got this all wrong. From this moment on SHE is the tech for all things problematic. Slide won't slide? Call HER. Freezer won't freeze? Call HER. Leaves you to worry about stocking cold adult beverages and the like! Now, keep this in mind: If she doesn't gloat like you suspect then YOU are back to being the tech.
The most important thing to keep in mind for all of us is realizing how many gremlins can creep in when switching tanks or replacing empty tanks.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh....back to same this morning.....no hot water. It did work for a couple of hours
Can provide more specifics as follows:
1. Propane lights for 5 seconds....nice blue flame ...the shuts off ....re-ignites 2 more times. Repeats this for a few more times Also when it ignites there is a little clicking noise.
2. Per pix above pushed both reset buttons. Nothing happened. Also there was no typical "feel"....pretty much like a rubber cover attached solid metal
Thank so much for your help

It ignites and burns nice blue flame and repeats this two more times. Each cycle of this lasts 5 or 6 times. Turning the LP switch inside the unit off and on....starts the 3 ignite cycle again. One third try on this per tthe manual it ignited and stayed on....for just 3 to 4 hours.
Yes we hear the burnercome on and shut off
It starts right off, but does make a clicking noise once ignited
Thx for helping

I hope you have better results but when mine did, what sounds like, the exact same thing I had to replace the control board. I could manually reset it (if I recall) once each time by removing power to the board but each time it tried to reignite it was the same thing (this is memory from a few years ago but I believe it is very accurate).

Just for your information this is what you are pushing behind the rubber caps

How did you test the board
How much was your new board at the time?
Did you replace it yourself?
Next place we are going the electric is included ....so we have time
Thx for your help

Please ignore my previous post My brain must be in idle. I was relating an issue I had with my HEATER/FURNACE, not the hot water heater. Sorry for the confusion. I guess I my Geritol hasn't kicked in yet

Now that the original issue is back the current score is about even in my view....she disputes this
How did you get the air out?

You get the air out usually by turning on the stove and lighting a burner. There was a recent thread about this. You might give it a try. I doubt that's your problem, but it's quick and easy and you never know.

It sounds like something other than air since it's back. Ours is an Atwood and the air cleared itself after a few minutes of running. Good luck.
