Sewer Hose Storage Question

I am very new to the RV world so I have newbie question. The Dealer told me not to store my sewer drain hose to prevent bacteria build-up. I have been using a bin to carry the hose around but it seems like a waste of space if the bumper is designed to store my hose?

I have stored my sewer hose in the bumper and in the white plastic hose holders that the dealer sells. If your going to store it in the bumper I would suggest you buy a good hose like a Rhino hose because it will get rusty and a little stiff. The plastic pipe holders need to be mounted high because if you hit it backing in or going into a driveway it will break and good by hose. You can also buy some schedule 40 PVC pipe and screw ends and it will work. Some of the senior members have also used the white vinyl fence post. Do a search in the mod section and you will find a lot of ideas.

Many folks store the stinky slinky in their bumper but many more don't because of varied reasoning such as rust, abrasion to the hose from the seam and flash inside the bumper.

Several folks use a PVC pipe with caps which they mount either to the bumper or more elaborately mounted in various places under, in and on the RV.

After visiting a couple of campsites where the FHU dump port was 30+ feet from my dump valve I started carrying four sections of hose each 10 feet long. These are the collapsible accordion style which are about 24" long when collapsed. I easily store 2 in my bumper and 2 in a plastic container, although one day when I'm not being lazy I plan on making a PVC tube to store all 4 and mount it on the bumper.

As another poster pointed out, if you store the Stinky Slinky (love it!) in the bumper there will be rust, though not enough to do any damage to the bumper during its first 20 years.

The rust will, however, reduce the life of the hose---so a thicker one might be in order. I recommend the one with the lowest cost per mil.

PS Thoroughly clean the hose before storing by making it do a hula dance while rinsing.

I use to use a plastic bin in the front storage for mine but this year we bought 6 inch pvc, 8 feet long and intalled it under the trailer just in front of the wheels. We painted it black, put a solid cap on the front end and a screw cap in the back. Currently we carry 30 feet of hose and you just pull out what you need and cap the rest. It makes set up and take down a little easier.

I love the term the "Stinky Slinky"!

Also, some very good tips on storage!

Thanks,

I just installed the 5x5 vinyl tube to my frame... I use to keep it in a bin up front but that used up alot of space..
I cut about 10" off of the 8' piece and mounted it directly to the frame..It fits a 20' hose with fittings attached as well as 90 degree sewer elbow..

Easy install for about $40...

I had 4" PVC which fir hose just fine, but not the connectors/adapters required. IMO Storing them separately was silly, so for $45 I got a 9' 5x5 white vinyl fence post and 2 end caps which I hinged and latched, and it holds 2 sections of slinky, the 90* adapter and the 4" round adapter.
I used the existing bolts which hold the underbelly enclosure to the frame, with some stainless steel plumbing strapping and couldn't be happier.

I use a flat Sterlite tote. Has my 20' rinoflex, the 10' junk hose they gave me with the starter kit and a couple of fittings in case I ever need to connect the two together to reach a FHU sewer.

As long as they are rinsed good with gray water and then I squirt with clean afterwards, I'll take my chances. Until I get time to build one of the glorious 6" fense post with the sliding gutter inside storage solutions (so I can leave my connections on), The tote is the best solution to protect the hose and isolate it from everything else.

After cleaning mine really well, I store mine in one of those plastic containers you use under a bed too store mine, then slide it in the front storage compartment.

Here is the one I just did,,
http://www.keystonerv.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12818

I store two connected 10 ft hoses with tank connection installed. The sewer elbow goes in last and fits with an inch to spare. No need for a slider to pull it all out.. Open the cap, remove elbow, pull out the hose and your all set....

I ended up cutting off my curbside cap and hinging it as well, so I can pull the extra length of hose I carry out only when I need it.

This looks like the MOD I need with pics. My TT does not have alot of storage space so anything I can store underneath (especially the stinky slinky) helps.

Thank You
