Water heater valve location

My first time out with my brand new 2019 Cougar 27Res. It’s also my very first trailer. I turned on the water heater but no hot water. I turned off the heater and immediately came to this forum for answers, and I got them!

I learned there is a valve behind the water heater that needed to be turned on so water can flow into the water heater. The water heater is immediately behind the sink so I opened the cabinet below the sink and saw a wood panel. I removed the panel by unscrewing the two screws in the floorboard. Viola! There was the water heater and more importantly the valve I was looking for. I opened the valve and I heard water flow into the water heater. I then went outside and released the pressure valve until water came out. The I turned on the water heater and could hear it fire up. Music to my ears! I replaced the wood panel under the sink and I was done! Easy peasy once I knew where to look.

Don't forget to close that valve when you winterize the trailer so you don't fill the water heater with anti-freeze.

I want you to see if you have a burst of cold water when showering and turn the on / off valve back on. We had the same valve system on our Laredo as you have and I re-plumbed it this spring. Problem solved. Went back to the old 3 valve system. Just curious to know what happens in your case.

Just a note... it is not a good thing to open the pop-off valve while filling... Your water heater needs an air gap for expansion and should be filled by opening the faucet furthest down stream from the heater until all air is evacuated from the lines..

It seems to work well. We have hot water when we turn it on and no bursts of cold water.

Glad yours is working well for you. Ours was not. I did some research and found that some kind of hot water physics was creating our problem. Well, after re-plumbing with the old standard 3 valve system, ours now works great. No more cold bursts of water when turning the shower head valve back on to rinse.
