Well I passed my Technician and General Amateur Radio license exams last weekend. Bucket list items checked off.

I know we have lot of hams (as in comedians of dubious character) on the forum, but wondering how many amateur radio hams we have?

Post your call sign and how many years.

Congrat's are in order, Chip! Sometimes those bucket lists look pretty long, but if the items are listed in your goals then the journey is usually rewarding.
I hope to never get to the end of mine.

Back in the day I never could remember the Morse code, so I never could pass the exam and get that license. Did a lot of SWL-ing on an old tube Zenith TransOceanic radio, but that has been gone longer than I care to remember! Still have my ARRL manual (packed up at present due to housecleaning; I think it is 1963 - bright red cover). For some reason still remember my CB license: KFU5164; no Morse code required there!

Congrats on this accomplishment.

The code is no longer needed so that makes all the difference. That and time held me back for quite a while.

Morse Code is no longer an international standard as I understand it. I used to be very proficient while in the Army. I have no desire to ever see an HF radio for that reason...

Anyone who has ever been "in trouble" and tapped out "VZE" will understand why my "SOS" won't bring help....

Congratulations Chip, now we'll be able to find you by the "double yagi array" on top of your Impact

Congratulations on getting your ticket!!

WD9FHA here, first licensed as a novice in 1974, learned enough code to pass the general and finally the advanced. The advanced class is no longer available and I've not been active on HF for 20 years or more. I still check into some of the local two meter nets. I've thought about an antenna for our trailer, just never got anything going.

This takes me back. My grandfather was a Ham (WB7BOH)

I watched him build radios from scratch, we built his huge antenna in the side yard. He built a small Morse code “practice” machine complete with headphones, but I lost interest.

We would spend some evenings listening to ones from all over the world, it’s sad as he is now 86 and we are having to put him in a facility as he has lost comprehension of most anything and everything
