Abuse it ? it's always the owners fault right ? you sound like you might work in the industry. Simply by opening and closing it get's closed average of 1-2 times a weekend all summer long in our seasonal site sometimes none as it locks itself and we're paranoid about being locked out The POS lock is supposedly "tested to 34,000 cycles" per the Mfg literature.

Pardon me if i don't subscribe to the take it as it is because there's nothing that can be done about it line of thinking. Keystone used an oddball lock that can't simply be replaced or upgraded without buying a new door or rigging something up that looks like hell and they should be held accountable for it on a 2 year old trailer.

Cheapest I've seen it was $75 even from Challenger it was $80 it's ridiculous that i can't just purchase a standard lock for $25 bucks like 99.9 1/2% of the RV world can.

Almost looks like a Trimark lock set. Maybe call them and get dimensions?

I've checked most of the lock sites out there checked trimark's site after your suggestion the cut out sizes appear to be RV standard from my first quick look. The only other option several lock vendors gave me was a motor home style lock which is larger than what i have now by 2" in every direction. I'll call Trimark tomorrow though thanks for the suggestion this is one i hadn't seen yet.

The Motorhome locksets are a different size from standard “trailer” locksets. I wonder if you could resize the opening to accept the motorhome lockst.

They said i could but most have pins that come out of the strike plates Fastec said i could buy theirs without the pins but the deadbolt is on top of the striker which is reverse of what the trailer has now. I just don't want to butcher up my trailer to replace a lock of all things.

Not saying this is the best solution. How much would a new RV door cost? That way you could place a standard lock in it and be done with the headaches.

Being a design engineer with a metal fab shop at my disposable; my solution would be to fabricate a nice 18 gage 316 stainless plate with appropriate dimensions for both sides of the door and use wooden blocks to fill the voids... Stylish, functional and personalized...

I've considered having someone fab something for it I'm going to measure it up this spring as the current opening needs cut out closer to the jam as well to install the standard lock as the leo lock is larger in all directions.

That's the lock I had in the photos it's too small as well as the Bauer the oem lock used was a one off use during a lock shortage during the big FIC recall.

Very close to what I did on a way long gone Kountry Aire 5er. Nothing in the '70s on any RV was 'standard' then. I also added a conventional dead bolt too on that 5er as we were having a theft problem in our neighborhood at the time.

There are simple DIY solutions to most anything on an RV and drop in isn't always the better way since a mfr does it the easiest/fastest, least expensive for their bottom line profit number, i.e. piecework

Called Challenger door there is no retrofit from them they are going to talk to the fabrication Dept to see if the can maybe make a cover plate to adapt to a standard lock.

I included a few photos and the flyer for the Leo lock my photo with the RVlock in the door is a little off but the front part of the lock is the gap that is all around the door when it's sitting flush was trying to take a photo holding the lock the door and my phone.

150.00 up here for a new one. no abuse at all infact i am very careful with it, the dealer has had nothing but problems with them and they said they replace one to three a week. the dealer has paid for 3 and they are on a 4th now, I had it in getting a couple things touched up a few weeks ago and the cylinder fell out right in front of them...

Hey Stir crazy, my locksmith neighbor says to take the lock assemble to a local locksmith and have hm rekey it.put the long pinsthat need the deep cuts on the lead edge of the key not up by the shoulder so no deep cuts in the body to create weak spot. hope this helps.---Lou---

was told by the locksmith they cant re-key this one but I will check with a different one.
