Head Room

I own a 2013 327 RES. Love the floor plan and easy access to kitchen and bedroom while slides are in the closed position. One thing that bothers me is lack of head room while getting in and out bed. Why did Keystone MFG this way??

Not necessarily a Keystone mfg issue - it's fairly common, on most mid-profile 5th wheels, since there's less wall space/height available (for the bed-slide).
Next time you're at a dealership, check the head-room (in the bed-slide) on a full-sized 5th wheel... that extra 5-6" in over-all height makes a big difference.

Happy trails.

It's a trade off. They could make it a full height trailer, but then you would have to deal with having to be more careful with overpasses and the increased wind resistance. Take a look at the low profile trailers, you have to crawl into bed.

That's why there are so many trailer types available. The is no perfect trailer. You get to pick what you want to compromise on. Weight, length, height, number of slides,...

I feel I have lots of room with our Copper Canyon. We had an 86 King of the Road before with out a slide in the bed room and it had a beautiful Headboard, but I hit my head more than once on it. Wish the Copper Canyon had one like it!!

I recently read on this forum (or was it RV.net?) of a TT owner who removed the cabinets over the bed. Looked good, but you lose the storage space.

Speaking of head room, I'm glad I'm not 6' tall or I would be touching the ceiling in the shower.

It comes down to what unit you buy. I'm 5'11" and I have ample head room. Before I ordered my trailer I shopped around and head room was at the top of my list.

Keystone built a stylish looking rounded out portion on the front of the bedroom slide right over my side of the bed. I have hit my head numerous times. I guess I could sleep with my head at the foot of the bed or switch side with DW, but I am used to sleeping on this side. Thinking of taking the piece out if I figure out how to replace with something decent looking. Other than this head room is fine for me. This and the long coat closet doors that also have to be opened to get the control, light switches etc are my only complaint about this unit. We really like the floor-plan of the 2013 Alpine 3555rl.
