Hooking Up Sewage Line - 2017 Outback 278 URL

I just bought a 2017 Outback 278 URL and noticed that there are 2 sewage drains coming out to the side of the trailer about 4 feet apart. How are you suppose to hook up at a campsite with this configuration? Please advise.

Thanks,
Walt Finch

You can get a "Y" and connect both at the same time. One is likely your galley grey tank, The other is your bathroom black and grey tank. Do you have 3 handles? I have the 2 take offs and that is how mine is set up.

Walt,
A perfect opportunity to become familiar with your camper before a trip.
DO NOT pull the handles to see if they work without a hose being hooked up.
You can figure from here what the result would be (without a hose) when you remove the caps.
Not sure what you had for a PDI, but if you have the trailer accessible (near home or in the driveway) check out as much as you can before you roll. The city water (remember the reducer, always),propane to stove and WH, electrical system ect.... Just eliminates some possible heartburn and makes for a more enjoyable trip.
Good luck.

Just went through the PDI on my 260UML today. Sounds like we have similar setups. I was told I have two gray tanks and one black. Dump the black and gray that are together first and then hook up to the other tank and dump it. Hope this is helpful!

When you pick the Y also pick a couple clear 45 or 90 degree fittings to put on the connection on the rv before connecting the hose, sure makes less of a guessing game when the tanks are empty, cause the sensors won't be anywhere near accurate after the 1st tank full.

You're welcome!
Some will adamantly disagree about the sensors!
From my experiences in 40+ years of rving, the last 10 fulltime, I've yet to own one that I'd bet money on the sensors being anything but pretty little red lights. Tried every concoction ever posted on forums & all the magic elixirs from rv shows or stores & still pretty red lights. So far the best tank cleaner is Dawn soap, good healthy squirt in the black tank with a couple gallons of water, travel to the next stop, once filled & drain.

Walt:
If you go to a camp with full hookup, hook up your grey tanks and you can leave the valves open.
However, don't do this with the black tank connection or you'll end up with the dreaded "poo mountain" in the black tank. For the black tank, just dump the contents before you leave the park, or if the tank gets full. The "liquids" in the black tank keep the "solids" soft and moveable. If the liquids are allowed to continuously drain away, the solids will "solidify" into "poo mountain" which can be hard to move after it has dried out.

I personally would never recommend leaving any of the holding tank valves open. Been there, done that. You really want all of your gray water to "flush" the "debris" left in the sewer hose after dumping the black tank. If not, you have a really nasty sewer hose..black tank flush or not.

First long stay it was recommended to leave our gray tank valves open then just dump the black tank and use the rinser. After a few weeks we went to leave. No issue really with the black tank "stuff" but the entire hose (all the serrations inside) was completely filled/packed with soap scum and who knows what else. It would not flush out and I didn't/don't have the patience to put a hose in it and try to blow it out. Capped both ends and put it in the dumptster. New hose, dump at appropriate intervals....zero problems.

Also, for your toilet, ALWAYS run plenty of water into the black tank after you dump it. You want to have plenty of liquid in the tank after dumping to "suspend" whatever comes in....not stick on a dry bottom. I make sure to run plenty of water after using every time to make sure we avoid potential problems.
