Or a quick "tap" with a welding rod from most any welder. If you don't have one, a 12 volt battery and a set of jumper cables..... No, don't try that unless you know what you're doing. LOL and don't forget to remove BOTH propane tanks before you try anything, including drilling the hole in the cross bar.

Let's look at this in practical terms. Jeff's photos show a nice, neat way of securing two tanks to the front of his TT. In reality, it would take longer to disconnect the two propane hoses from the tanks than to take any tool (say an old style tire tool) and pry the cross member away from the tank. Once one is bent out of the way then the second one just falls into your hands. Too much thought went into this solution. Eighteen inches of chain and the same lock and it is considerably harder to take them.

A short piece of cable and a lock work for me as I try to always look for the KISS method of doing things.

Well now Jim...I'll take this as a compliment. You might just surprise yourself thinking that cross member is easily bendable. I sure that after a considerable amount of time it could be possible. However the losers that are stealing propane tanks are scrawny meth-heads! Oh... and the propane tanks are in a doored compartment on the side of my "fifthwheel."

That U shaped notched bar is a LOT tougher than you give it credit for! It will bend DOWN a whole lot easier than UP..and unless you bend it up, you ain’t getting the tanks.... don’t ask

For consideration; I had my tanks secured by chains, locks etc. trying to keep them safe. The bottom line is a cheap set of bolt biters ($15) will cut any chain you have around the tanks.....then they are gone. The lock, thru the wing nut, at least slows someone down enough for?? and, in an RV park, or secured area with cameras, it will take an awful long time to try to work the rod out.....JMO.

I am hanging my head in shame for not noticing that Jeff is in an Alpine (and a very nice RV at that, I might add). Richard Pryor once said in his now unmentionable comedy albums "A wino ain't afraid of nothin' but running out of wine." In todays world, it is "A meth-head ain't afraid of nothin' but running out of meth." I still believe pawn shops are the reason for all this crime.
I'll still stick by my premise that the chain is better, but we can all probably agree that ANYTHING we do to slow down a little dirt-bag will work most of the time.
Now on to trying to convince Jeff that he needs a better WDH on his rig.....

Yep, much easier to buckle metal than to stretch it!
