Spray them. It will kill some and the others should leave. I would assume they could get in. Buy vent screens on Amazon, real easy to install and come in a lot of sizes to suit whatever appliances you have.

thanks Amy. Was contemplating spraying, but didn't want the spray to get too far into the vent (not sure why i am worried about that lol?).

I am in Maryland and traveling to VA Saturday. Obviously, we have no need for heat right now. Hoping the wasps exist the vent during our 3 hour trek to VA.

The burner assembly is separate from the blower assembly that moves air through the coach.

When you turn in the furnace, two fans blow. One is for the burner that heats up the plenum (a series of tubes) and the other blows air across the hot plenum and into the ducts.

This is a simplified version, but wanted to assure you the “outside” stuff won’t mix with the “inside” stuff.

Down south, mud dauber wasps can be major issue regarding heater exhausts etic Fixes include screen material aux. clip on dams parts that protect your inlets, and exhausts .

Any competent RV supply store in the affected areas should have an inexpensive fix.

Just a consideration, spiders love the smell of propane too, regardless of region. Fortunately, they are easier to deal with. Just clean the webs out, and proceed as usual.

Good Luck,

Vacuum them out, and turn the furnace on low. You’ll have to get the cover off after. Carefully.

Out here the mud dawbers build their nest as far in as they can, usually on the burner and igniter. Once that happens there is no lighting the furnace or vacuuming it out. Complete disassembly is required. That’s why screens are recommended at walkthrough. Water heater and refer areas, use cheap flea collars.

Good to know. I’m going off my experience with paper wasps, they must be a bit easier to get rid of.

I cut slightly oversized pieces of alum screen to fit the refrigerator covers and the water heater cover. Nothing fancy and they remain in place when the covers are put back on. Also put a plastic plumbing cap on the generator exhaust (added a self tapping screw to hold it in place) and blue tape on the water tank vent. All to keep wasps out when parked at home. Easy peasy and effective.

Putting screens on the refer vents will cause up to a 30% drop in efficiency. Norcold and Dometic have told us if there is a warranty issue and the customer has installed screens they will void the warranty. They both advised the use of flea collars.

The screens are on place only when parked at home.

The flea collars sound like a good idea, too.

Where are we advised to put these flea collars exactly? Just in the compartment?

Flea collars go in the bottom access to the refer and across the bottom of the water heater.

Been there, they wont get into the coach but your furnace wont sense the correct air flow and wont light. Spent a freezing weekend in Michigan's upper peninsula with this issue. Had to pull the furnace and disassemble as far as possible and use a coat hanger to tear the nest out and vacume/blow the particles out. I use screens now, cheap, easy prevention.

Once you get rid of the existing problem, this is how to prevent it in the future.

Only if you can see them. Often times the problem isn’t apparent until the furnace doesn’t light. As stated above, complete teardown is required.
