Laredo 245RL black tank question
Ok, so a quick peek down the commode drain into the black tank ... is this "obstruction?" supposed to be there?
Looks like a ... uh ... well .... an obstruction, for lack of anything better ... supposed to break up "stuff" ???
Edit - upon further pondering, it looks like a large version of the insert/guard in a typical sink drain

No, that "thoroughfare" should be unobstructed. At first glance, it looks a bit like the blades on a macerator......maybe you have the deluxe toilet with a built-in macerator - just kidding. Whatever it is, it shouldn't be there.
Wow, these posts of late are getting too weird. First we have fir tree needles finding their way into a guy's ice cubes in his freezer and now this mysterious object in your toilet drain pipe. What next?

I would need to agree, sure doesn't look like it belongs there!!
I would also be concerned as it looks as the lower opening in your toilet is smaller than the upper one not a good thing either.
I think it is time to go fishing!!
No ones asked yet, Got Kids!!
Had one of my girls drop a couple plastic toys down the home toilet, it would clog, plunge and it was fine for a couple days. I finally pulled the toilet and found them in the trap.

You might need to take a good stool softener to have everything make it past that thing.
If stool softener isn't practical, you might want to try and remove whatever that thing is. Good luck.

That definitely is not something I've seen in any toilet I've had (or used). I have a couple of questions:
1. Has the toilet been working like this? Seems that any solids or paper would have been trapped and you'd have had toilet issues if it was there all along.
2. Has anyone done any work on your toilet/holding tank recently?
My suggestion would be to remove the toilet and get right down to whether this is in the holding tank or in the base of the toilet. There's only 2 bolts holding the toilet to the floor and one water line connection. I'd suggest taking the toilet out, turning it upside down (outside of course) and seeing what's there.
There should be nothing but a clear pipe between the base of the toilet and the holding tank. What you've got is a mystery. Maybe not in "what" it is, but certainly in "Why" it's there.......
Added: Thinking out of the box, if it's easily removable, then just pull it out, but if it offers any resistance, I'd be afraid to yank or twist. If you mess up the sewer pipe from the toilet to the holding tank, you'll have issues that are more than just an unknown object.....

gkainz, we have a 2010 Laredo 5th wheel too... and there's no *mystery object* under our flusher ball, it's
completely open & clear to the down pipe.
I agree with the others - *it* (whatever it is) doesn't belong there, & if possible remove it very carefully!
Obviously you don't want to damage the toilet, but you also don't want to risk *it* falling down the pipe toward
the black tank... --seems unlikely that it would simply travel through on an uneventful journey to the sewer/dump
station-- ...those 'prongs' could easily cause a nightmare obstruction, for sure!
As an added note: if you should have to remove the toilet, be aware that your Dometic 310 toilet has to be
removed 'all in one piece'. It cannot be dis-assembled into sections, as per the manual:
"Factory-sealed bowl-to-base assembly – Unlike other Dometic footpedal toilets, the bowl and base of 310 and
320 series toilets should not be separated for any reason."

good replies all - thanks for the responses! Kids are all grown and out of the house, so nobody to blame there ... but when they were younger, everything was the responsibility of those two kids "Idunno" and "Notme" ... I think almost every family has those two around the house!
I believe this "obstruction" has been there since we got the unit last year. Yeah, the toilet works but honestly we don't use it for solids very often. This came back up as a headscratcher last night as I pursued cleaning the tank (geom method) in an attempt to get my sensors working right again.
guess I'll go drain diving tonight with some long tongs or pliers and see if it's solid or loose.

"Upon further review, the ruling on the field is overturned. The 'obstruction' is not an obstruction at all. It is odd coloration of white and black on the inside of a street ell fitting, making a bend, apparently, into the black tank."
Very odd. My other RVs all dropped straight down from the commode into the black tank.

Looked at the picture and it looks just like ours. I too thought it was an obstruction as we would have liquid/solids backing up in the pipe and when we flushed we would get this huge buble of air before it would pop and stuff would flush down the drain. Eventually got a plumbers snake and one of those hose attachments with the spray nozzle on the end and thoroughly cleaned out the pipe and holding tank. It was during this process that I discovered that what appeared like blockages was actually PVC cement that had dripped down the inside of the pipe. We finally got it flushing properly, no more buble. Now if I could just get the sensor working properly. It always show 2/3 or full, never empty.
