Radical 325 srx mod
This coming Wednesday we will be doing a mod I've been thinking about for a couple of years. We will be removing the door between the bay and cabin, removing the wall that supports the loft, back to the ladder edge. This will allow a few extra inches needed to accommodate a longer golf cart and still use the ladder/loft. I have a local home re-modeler coming in to do the work. We love the unit and have no intention of moving to a larger or more expensive unit and this will allow us to replace our old golf cart with a longer one. Hopefully, we will be able to just put the new cart that has a back seat in without making the rear seat removable, a number of carts that we are looking at should fit fine. I'll post pictures next weekend after completed.

if its like most and not a 6 seater around 1000-1200 lbs. Mine is around 1100lbs..if its a Club Car the frame is aluminum and body is plastic.. wheels, tires and batteries that add the weight.

I don't know what kind of golf cart you are looking at. We took our cart to the dealer at thire request to be sure it fit befor we bought our 2012 325. We have a 04 club car president with a rear set I did shorten the armrest that support the rear step 3'' . When we load the cart I just take two bolts out of the step an fold it up I should make two pins to replace the bolts . We have about 6'' to spare in length. After loading a few times I found out I would not have had to shorten the armrest to start with but it did give more room. I think any of the President carts build in the last 10 years will fit in a 325 because they are narrow .The style of rear seat could make a lot of difference. That you are about to do will be nice Good luck.

Cart
Our last cart was a 1991 2 seat electric EZ-GO, I believe it was just over 800Ibs. Pinning a rear seat is great idea and what we have in mind. Again, pics on the way later this week.

aluminum?
while the big door is wood the smaller door on our 3912 is around aluminum tubing. I figure that is what supports the loft. good luck

Good Start
Turns out the wall is not load bearing, there is a steel plate from the roof that supports the loft from the top down. They are working it right now, hopefully will be done today.

Pictures
Well, came out awesome. I will sand the wood just a bit and find the best match in stain I can to match the rest of the wood in the unit. Very happy with the result, trailer is super open and can even see the Television from the bay!

Sure opens it up... I wonder if you will have trouble heating now?
Post up a pick of new cart loaded.

Heating
Well, we don't really use the trailer when it's that cold, however when we have, I've always used a small electric ceramic heater in the bay anyway, has always done the job. Interestingly enough, cooling has always been a challenge, however with the portable we use in the bay, it's always been a refer back there, which now will spread more easily toward the front. With the extra bedroom unit we put in this past year cooling is not all that much an issue either though. My leather chair that we bring for the bay (after unloading the cart) will be easily placed now to see the Television in the main cabin, yet another benny!

Almost There...
Waiting for stain to dry, then will decide if another coat or let it be. I don't want it to get to dark.

Looks good to me, nice going solving your space challenge.
As you say cold weather camping is not an issue for you so heating or heat loss not a problem. Nice that the flooring under the portion of the wall removed was intact.
Certainly more cost effective to modify an RV you already own and enjoy!

Yes, that's the way we looked at it for sure, we have done a bunch of little personal stuff to this unit, it's been a great unit, now that last pain in the butt issue is taken care of!

Sorry to resurrect the thread - any pictures of the construction "in-progress?"
Curious to see the guts of the wall there.

Bay wall mod
I do have a couple of pics taken during the work, I'll dig around and post them. I ended up putting edge molding on for the carpet, came out very nice. We can't wait to use the unit now. Surprisingly, the bay heats pretty quick, I went out there a couple of weeks ago and because the vent below the drawers point half rear, the warm air was pushing straight back. Moving the rolling cabinet up from the garage is even easier now. At any rate, let me dig around, will pic some pictures during the work to post.
