Trip Info

Hello, I am a new owner of 07 3712ts toyhauler and am planning a trip to west coast soon. Was wanting to talk with someone who has experience going from NE Fla area to No Cal with stops in many western states. New to TV, Duramax, and toyhauler so looking for input on best practices in roads, boondocking, etc. We plan on riding our Polaris SXS thru out the west. If you live in NE Fla area and could give me some advice and your experiences, let me know. Thanks in advance.

Don't know where in NE FL you are or what kind of route you are looking at but I make a trip twice a year from W TX to a little place called St. Marks (SE of Tallahassee) twice a year. If you're looking to go places so you can ride your SxS then you will probably have to be looking at locations in the national forests/BLM land. They are forbidden in any wilderness area and most/all national parks as well as state parks if I recall.

Cool, I am from Tallahassee. Been to St. Marks many times. You go there to fish?

My daughter and her family relocated to St. Marks so we go to see them. We stay there (nearby) for 3-4 months a year (gotta be near the grandgirls). And yes, we go fishing quite often (I gifted them a boat when they moved there). We also use the RV as a base to head out and visit other areas; the Keys, Everglades etc.

If you're looking for off roading options in Utah let us know. Many options, all good.

I agree with Utah off road options great state to visit. We live in southern Nevada near by Utah. We have some great places to visit also....just stay away from sin city...lol visit it once so u can say you went there. Within 1 hour of Vegas is great places to visit also northern Nevada is rich in mining and cowboy history. If you make northern Nevada to Winnemucca or Elko make sure you visit one of the Basque restaurants... you will not be disappointed

Yes!! The Star Hotel in Elko has great Basque food - Wednesday night if I recall.

Congrats on your new unit. We've only been as far west as Denver (twice) with this trailer. We try to avoid I-10. Of course, we have to take I-10 somewhat if we head west (we also try to avoid I-95 heading north!). We typically veer north just after passing Tallahassee. We look for city-operated campgrounds when possible; they're typically reasonably priced, conveniently located and have decent amenities.

I will bet I get a complete confirmation from all members when I tell you this: Make absolutely sure you have either a brand new or almost brand new set of Maxxis, Carlisles, Sailuns or an equal on your rig! Nothing you can do before you start will be as important as what I'm telling you. Remember your significant other, fill your pockets with cash, fill her purse with cash, (did I mention the tires?) and have a big, big time! We have travelled west a number of times with the Harley and sidecar and always had a fine time. One of the most memorable spots is Avenue of the Giants in northern California. Keep us up on your trip!

Ho, ho, ho! Jim knows of what he speaks! Fill your pockets with cash, fill her purse with cash, put some in the console, some in the glove box, the travel bags, and wherever else you think of....you'll need it. If you do try to go to "sin city" double it!!

It's been said many times that an RV'er's best friend is a major credit card with a large limit and a small balance. Two is even better !!!!!

Arizona, Utah and Nevada are an ATV paradise. Mina, NV, alone, has 500 miles of trails. Ride right from the RV park.
