Our tech also told us during the pdi that we could walk on the roof, but he made mention to say that we should only step on the supports when we do. I assume he meant the beams going across from one side to the other, as I could make them out when the light hit the roof right, every couple feet or so.

I do feel better about having them install the vents now...I'm not very graceful lol.

I would be worried that the techs at the RV shop don't take the time to spread out their weight and just walk right up to the fan to do their work.

I called the local Camping World to see if I could get an appointment to have some covers installed. They said they were booking out after May 26th. Yeah, I guess I'll be borrowing a ladder and doing my best impression of a pancake soon.

Keystone roof

I have a new 2014 Passport 2510RB Grand Touring Ultra Light and I contacted Keystone regarding walking on the roof (I wanted to put an ADCO cover on this winter). Keystone notified me that my roof did not have a walkable surface. So I put the cover on the hard way from ladders.

When we bought our sales person said you can do it, but... so we got fair warning from our dealer that the Passport roofs were not the sturdiest. That said, I've walked on (with all the creaks and pops that it makes) and crawled around with plywood to install air vents, clean the roof and slide tops, and to seal some tears from branches. I was 230lbs last time I went up there, so it can be done - carefully. Just try to stay on the trusses. I didn't like the "feel" when I didn't land my foot on a truss and probably wouldn't be happy to find out what would happen if I put my full weight there. Just sayin'...

My wife walks on our roof quite often, sometimes to get debris that has fallen from the trees, other times to clean AC cover and also when we cover it she will guide the cover over the AC and vent covers which I saw the dealer tech install by walking on the roof and also to do the roof recall on our 19FB Premier which has a curved roof. So far she has not had any problems, don't know what would happen if I got on the roof as I weight 200+ that may make a difference.

Please I read to use a piece of plywood liken 1/2 in or even 3/4 would be better I called Keystone to locate trusses they tod me 15inch center to center. I can see the ribs thru the membrne when I looked with y 13 ft step ladder. The wood bridges across 2 of the trusses and spreads out the weight. I have to reseal my ac and vents om top and replace one vent cover this year. I have a Passport 2010 28ft

1/2" plywood would be fine. Of course the bigger the sheet, the more the load is spread. I would use a 1/2 sheet and crawl on your hands and knees.

I just used the advice of another member and bought a 8x4 ft sheet of 2" foam insulation board from Home Depot. I cut out 2 pieces, each 2x4 feet, and duct taped the rough edges. Worked beautifully with my 10 feet A-frame ladder. Was able to spread the weight of my 200 lb body along multiple trusses. The foam is very light and non abrasive to your rubber TPO roof. My 1st inspection took all but 10 minutes. I did "Dicor" a couple of vent screws that looked suspicious.

When we get back from Florida in 2 weeks, I'll probably use these new foam pads with the installation of a new vent fan.

roof walkable?

I have a passport 13' had an 11' walked on both installing covers, new vents and vent pipe units, also installed a radio antenna onto my TV antenna , drilled holes and pluged. Removed the cover and washed round the AC new sealer..

Then have washed the roof on the 11' several times, the 13' 2 times so fa and needs it again.
I am at 235#s and walk watching where the "beams" are. But never was told, not to walk on the roof. JUST be careful and if you need get a piece of 1/4" plywood to spread out your weight.

Happy landing!

The last time I cleaned my roof I could see foot prints from the dealers techs. I do the best I can to spread the weight if I need to go up top.

The guy who walks the customer through the operation check off list at Imperial RV in Ankeny, IA told me to use the slide out roof as a way to get up on the roof of ours, nope, not going to do that.

When I bought my 2014 Bullet 285RLS, I specifically asked the dealer if it was walkable and they said YES! But then I called Keystone after a few days and got an engineer on the phone ad he said DEFINITLY NOT! He said Ultralite Bullets are NOT designed for someone to be on the roof. The structure is not heavy enough. I called the dealer and informed them and they were surprised. The Passport series is also an Ultralite and uses the same roof system. I now use a 10 ft stepladder to put my cover on and off. To do any vent installs, I agree with the post above that says use hard foam to crawl on , not plywood for risk of tearing the thin rubber membrane.
